Has Justus Sheffield out of Tullahoma committed anywhere yet? I know his brother is a Vandy commit. He would be a great grab for the Vols.

Not sure but Max preps has him at 6-0, 61k's in 31 innings pitched and a .42 era. Impressive numbers for a 2014. Need this kid on Campus Now!:good!:

I heard Hayden Stone and Justus Sheffield will be facing off Tuesday. Should be a great game! Both guys running it up there at 90 mph with electric breaking balls.

As of what I've been told both guys were dominant. Both guys had strikeouts in the double digits. Stone ran into some trouble in the 7th with an infield hit and stolen base. 2 more hits and the game was over. Stone suffers his 2nd loss of his career. Justus Sheffield domiated all 7 innings only giving up 1 run. Having both of these guys on campus would be major plus.

Interesting article. It sure sounds as if he was pushed into making a decision by State. This tactic in recruiting is why kids change their mind IMO. The other interesting note in the article is that Tennessee had called him. That's a violation if true.

How is that a violation?

Schools can't call a recruit until July 1st before their senior year. The article said Kentucky had correspondence(thru email or indirect means) which is legal but making a call as the article said Tennessee did isn't.

I would hope that it meant calls to the coach.

If a college calls a hs coach, can the kid be put on the phone?

I am sure that has happened before but the cleanest way is to call or text the hs coach and tell him to have the kid call the college back. That is usually the way it works.

All in all, it's a sloppily written article by a reporter who was obviously not familiar with college baseball recruiting. It would be a mistake to use whatever hearsay the reporter accepted as the basis for believing UT committed a recruiting violation.

It's not the only thing in the article that didn't quite add up.

For example, it reports uncritically the assertion that he is one of MS State's top recruits while also accepting that MS State pressured him to decide now. Well, the only pressure a school can exert is to threaten to pull or reduce the offer. As a rule, that only happens to replacement-level recruits, not the top stars. Top prospects get to take as much time deciding as they need.

Also, the article said he already "passed his ACT." Great, except that the ACT is not a test that people pass or fail. You just get a score, and the schools and the NCAA decide how to interpret that score in light of other factors like GPA. Maybe the player scored well enough to be an NCAA qualifier with his projected GPA, but the reporter was too lazy to clarify and too uninformed to know he should have tried. It shows he was just cranking out a puff piece on a local kid and passing along uncritically whatever he was told.

Unless the recruit produces phone records, the alleged call is just self-serving folklore.

I agree I thought it was poorly written and wasn't very favorable to miss state as well. It left some doubt that the kid may not be sold on his choice.
