It’s more about difference makers. That’s why Clemson beats Bama 2 out of 3 times. Their recruiting rankings were never close to Bama but their great players were better. For example our last years class is better than its ranking because we have several difference makers. You then have to surround them with solid players and coach them up. Only about half of any signing class is going to do much and that’s true of any school.

This is a good post and you are exactly right. And did Butch Jones ever sign an offensive lineman who could contribute right away, as both Wright and Morris have?

It's a little early to say he's missed or it's a bad recruiting class. After the early signing period, that's when we will know. But right now, 20th nationally and 8 in the SEC. That's not very good at all. The problem is, you have a bunch of people wearing orange tinted glasses on here that are very quick to denounce anyone who talks out against Pruitt.

No the problem is a bunch of you guys are looking for problems in this staff, when recruiting has never been an issue with these guys. There is literally NO reason to doubt this/them on the recruiting trail, you would think what they were able to pull off last year would actually encourage people. If nothing else these guys know talent and how to get it, at least wait until nsd with these threads...

You're underselling the impact of coaching continuity... coaching ability, and player fit into this question.

HELL NO. I would comfortably say 4th best class in the SEC for 2019.

The only thing that matters is how highly ranked Pruitt and Co think our class is.
You're going by these popularity websites to gauge the talent of a class? It's fun, but they're not college coaches who make a living shaping talented athletes. They have a general assumption at best...

Player development is about opportunities of showing your skillset with the coaching as it comes. We're playing a lot of freshman because 1) we need to. And 2) They're good enough to or downright the best option.!
So this 7th ranked SEC class is developing a lot better than the most of the others because they are playing NOW.

The same will go for 2020. This class is just fine, and have room to add some real studs.
We have the fastest WR class so far probably. Another athletic DB class already.
And the Memphis Whitehaven trio are all SEC caliber LBs.

You just cant judge any recruiting class based on stars alone. This staff is the best at coaching/developing players since Lane's staff. To all those who think that Butch's classes were so great need to realize the difference in recruiting 2 five star skill players compared to 2 five star linemen is night and day. SEC games are won on the offensive and defensive lines, Pruitt is smart enough to realize that.

AT the very least. I care far more about how we do in the SEC-as the last time I checked that is our Conference. We'll never win a conference championship again, unless we start winning SEC games, it doesn't matter if we go the the Cheeze it bowl, or the Idaho Potato Bowl, we need to concentrate on winning our Conference, everything will fall into place.

I read an article about the spread on UT vs UAB. The article was about the difference in the different services unusual wide spreads, that it was noticeable nationwide. A few services had UAB as the favorite one by 10+ where most of the services had UT as, close to 2 TD favorite with a few just+2. Then the writer ask how does this happen?
You lose to GSU and you will have naysayers for quite a while.

The few that have us as +2, are not actually taking any action, if I'm wrong, please post where I can book a bet with these clowns. Those actually takin action are -13.5 as of right now, that is a 15.5 point spread-you can beat it high and low, doesn't usually happen, someone is about to get hurt, if the +2 is real.

Be careful, you may be attacked by a large number of boy butch fan club members-they have an un-natural love for boy butch, with that said you have a good point. Even with that much talent, boy butch sucked!

Very good point. Why dis the OP because he brought up a point that most of you know is true at this stage but you don't want to admit?

We are behind the others in getting the commits. Hopefully this will change, but at this particular stage, the signs are pointing toward us not getting who we had hoped.

examples - the kid who decommitted, Gilbert, Washington, the LSU wide receiver. and the list goes on. None of the 5* have committed to us. The big programs have 5* commits.

Is we finish 7-5 or 6-6 with bowl appearance I would be surprised if we did not make a run toward a top ten class. Easily a top 15 class.

I've asked the same thing, I'd like to know. But as I pointed out, recruiting isn't over, so are these figures based on "gut feelings". I'd like to see a ranking based on ACTUAL signed letters of intent, not, "well he might, he hasn't signed but we feel good about it, we talking too, etc." Does anyone actually have that data? If so, What is the ranking, unless it is Top Secret.

I honestly believe the difference between the top 12 classes comes down to how long you can keep them and train them up.

You can have a top five class thst all leaves or is busy like we have had many times or a top 15 class that produces multiple 4 year players who start their junior or senior seasons.

I am sick of the bust.

I want high three stars/low four stars who are hungry and want to win and are willing to be coached up.

Butchs classes show stars don’t mean crap.

Is signing high school kids nearly as important as it used to be with the new transfer rules? Let them get bigger, stronger, faster and then transfer to us!

This is what im interested to see. With the transfer portal and Tennessee having so few upperclassmen it seems like Pruitt might be able to pick up some talent there after the season ends and coaches get fired or take new jobs.
