It wouldnt discourage anyone from signing with us, it would limit how many could sign.
or 5I believe we'll end up in the top 20. But to compete for championships we're going to have to get more 4* & 5* players. I know a lot of highly ranked HS players don't pan out but the recruiting services are much better at evaluating talent than they used to be. If you're not getting your share of these guys it's a tough road to the top.
You can say "look at Cincinnati" but if they were in the SEC they might have won 9 games this year.
Mostly what has me worried are teams like Missouri, South Carolina, and Kentucky are all ranked higher. To win in our own division we have to be recruiting over them.
And a first year coach can go to a kids living room and say, "We crushed Missouri and South Carolina with crumbs here, and beat Kentucky as well. Why not come here instead". After 2022 when Heup get's his sea legs, we should have no problem recruiting better than those 3.Mostly what has me worried are teams like Missouri, South Carolina, and Kentucky are all ranked higher. That’s what I’m saying. Look at what he did with the little he was left with. Tn recruits itself. If we keep improving than the recruiting will certainly pick up.I’m not worried at all. Seeing what CJH did this season, I’m convinced we need bodies as much as anything. As our results improve, so will our recruiting.
This team is not a championship team by any measure. They greatly improved from last year and were fun to watch at times ,while still needing great improvements in areas. Previous staffs have had top rated classes ie Jones and Pruitt but were unable to coach the kids up. From what I saw this year I think Heupel can coach. I'm excited to see what he does. Go VolsNo championship team sits at a recruiting ranking of 32. Now, do I think the Vols will stay at 32, no. But, if you want to be a championship team, you'd better be landing top-tier talent.
That just means Hype & co need to do a better sales job. /QUOTE]
Like lie and say there won’t any or few sanctions ? Unless they have a a damn good idea of will happen all they can do is give an opinion. Which I am sure they are doing. If they outright lie and UT is slammed then Heupel is toast with future recruits cause other schools and rightly so will say he is liar. Long term not a good idea to lie about future sanctions that may or may not come.
I think we are fine, this is coming in this weekend.

I guess it all boils down to what we want out of our football team. If we're satisfied with a team with the goal of a double digit win season at least once in a decade, and one that the Bama's, UGA's, and Florida's can reasonably bank on as a sure fire w, our recruiting is where it ought to be.
No offense, but you seem miserable.Ranked 32? We could do that well if the recruiting budget was limited to sending out post cards.
I've seen this excuse thrown around religiously.
First of all nobody is in the living room of recruits so no, we don't know what other teams are saying. We're not some juggernaut that other schools are afraid of. You think Saban and Kirby are trying to persuade a recruit from coming here because of sanctions? Saban can show both hands with rings and they both can whip out a chart with all the players they've sent to the NFL. Nevermind our record against them
2. What sanctions are even possible to put off a recruit? We're nowhere near fighting for the east so it's not like we're going to be in the hunt for an sec championship much less a national title. A bowl ban? Not a big deal really. Scholly reductions? Hurts some but not as much as people think if they believe the portal is a savior.
3. You're not building a roster from the portal. It's to fill a few gaps not to use for an entire 2nd team. And again, the top guys in the portal will still get cherry picked by the top teams if it's a position of need.
4. Blows my mind people can't see the top teams are the ones with the highest recruiting classes. So yes I'm worried about recruiting in the 30s. Hell I'm worried about being outside the top 10 cause even then your in the middle of the pack in the sec. Problem is you don't get top classes without playing for championships and putting a lot of guys in the NFL so it's a double edge sword. We need 2 of bama, Georgia or Florida to collapse to make up ground. Clemson would be nice.
Of course I am worried. While Heupel has some attributes as a coach that he excels at. Recruiting has been a big question on how he would adapt. Yes we can out scheme folks. But sooner or later in the SEC it almost always is more beneficial to have better Jimmys and Joes than being better at Xs & Os. But this season I wont be to critical. Now next season he needs to start making strides.Figured I’d post this here. With the early signing period and NSD just around the corner, we are currently ranked 32 per ESPN, 22 per 247, and one of the lower ranked out of all SEC teams. I don’t follow the recruiting forum, but those in the know, should we be worried at all or do we have some recruits headed our way?
