Recruiting…anyone worried?

No championship team sits at a recruiting ranking of 32. Now, do I think the Vols will stay at 32, no. But, if you want to be a championship team, you'd better be landing top-tier talent.
Ummm you do realize Cincinnati’ last 3 classes were 19, 89, 37 ranked correct? Last I checked they were number 3 and undefeated!

Most of the teams ahead of us have more commits and a lower average recruit rating. And still a chance we flip a high rated recruit or two.

I edited my original reply.

Cinci is a good team, but they haven't won it all yet. I was honestly glad to see them get a look by the Committee, but I don't see them taking the whole thing . . . or better stated, as much as I like them, I wouldn't be willing to put money on them.

On 24/7,Tennessee is at 22 right now.We also have16 commits. At least 3-4 teams ahead of us have 22-24 commits. We will gain on them purely by numbers.Remember when we were second in the standings, but, we had.22-24 commits to other teams having 12-16. I think we round up15.Don-t worry.

Don’t ever pay attention to the ESPN rankings. They are so full of $@&t their eyes are all brown. We only have 16 commits right now. We are making a run at some pretty darn good players. Callahan indicated we probably sign about 25 hs and juco players. We should get about 7 spots from portal transfers of which we can fill with transfers coming our way. Let CJH recruit who he knows he can get that fits his system until we actually compete for the East or conference championships and then worry about blue chips. Being able to coach up kids that fit his system is more important right now. Our previous coaches failed at coaching kids up but I think we are good there now.

“This waiver will allow those programs to replace up to seven departing transfers above the 25-player limit. Schools will only be allowed to replace players who enter the portal after either the end of the institution’s fall term or Dec. 15, 2021, whichever is earlier, a source told The Athletic. Schools will only be allowed to replace players who are academically eligible at their new school.”

I don’t think it matters if those 7 players are high schoolers or transfers. It doesn’t really specify. It just says “replace”.

Mostly what has me worried are teams like Missouri, South Carolina, and Kentucky are all ranked higher. To win in our own division we have to be recruiting over them.
This is Mizzou strongest class EVER so far.
It's an anomaly i believe.
We're even with South Carolina.

We only have 15 strong commits
10 more spots for HS guys
7 spots for transfer portal

So our class is" about half" right now.
We're about to add a 4 star WR and 4 star RB
soon too.

Enjoy the ride!

You're right...
So it's possible we sign 30 out of HS by Feb 2022 National Signing Day

It amazes me how some of our fans expect us to go from rock bottom to a top 10 recruiting class in a year. It is going to take time folks. The other part of this is taking every ranking for gospel that comes from fatties like Mike Farrell who never played sports at any meaningful level.

Fulmer leaves '08, 2009 Rivals class rank 10 nationally
Kiffin leaves '09, 2010 Rivals class rank 9 nationally
Dooley leaves 2012, 2013 Rivals class rank 21 nationally followed immediately by two consecutive top 5 nationally ranked classes
Butch leaves 2017, 2018 Rivals class rank 20 nationally followed immediately by a #8 nationally ranked class
Pruitt leaves 2020, 2021 Rivals class rank 27 and immediately following class currently ranked #29.

one of these things is not like the others. sure there are some explanatory factors but at the end to the day recruiting performance is a results-based endeavor just like on the field performance. This staff has to do better.

I think Heup can consistently get capable players to punch above their weight.

That certainly shouldn’t win us championships in the near term, but I’m VERY interested to see what he can do with a capable QB and a more fulsome compliment of players, regardless of star power.

We need warm bodies. Even with scholarship reductions, the 2022 Vols will not be as thin as the 2021 Vols. That’ll help. Win 9 or so with that kind of roster and the stars will start to align.

so far we have coaches at OM, MSU, Arky, SC, KY and UTK, and arguably AU as well, that got more out of their rosters than the sum of recruiting rankings would suggest. That's quite a logjam. If anyone is gonna step up, someone else is gonna have to step back.

I think it says something that none of the kids that transferred from last year that we needed did better. Almost all did worse and some fell off the chart. You can't tell me Gray would have racked up in this offense Toto would have been the same here or there most left to ride the bench when they could have improved here and some are without a coach again. I bet there is alot of regret in fact the one that went to west Virginia is coming back I think the Dlineman.

It seems like Heupel gives off a confidence like no other coach we have had that he can plug and play and make the team better at any position on the team. Even when he had offensive lineman out he was confident in the backups and what he went through with the running backs and has made a star out of our QB and wide receivers that wasn't on the radar.

I guess you take the rankings to be fact. You also neglect to acknowledge the fact that CJH is at the end of your timeline aka rock bottom. Can you also not see how the rankings get worse with each coaching change? Critical thinking is not our fans best quality.

I'm astounded about the "what? me worry?" attitude shared by many Vol fans. I never expected next year's class to be a world beater, but if it's followed up by a similar class, this coaching staff's days are numbered.

In last 4 days 240 players have been added to transfer portal.........recruiting those guy may be more important.

Interested but not worried. I honestly feel we finally have a staff with the motivation and coachability to get best out of the players. And also the coach to finally...finally...FINALLY..create a system around the talent and players to put them in a position to be successful.
