Word is he has been taken aback this year at UT and as a HC. Sounds like he realized he needs a more modern system on offense. Saw a lot with what Locksley ran at Bama and the modern concepts his old boss ran and is trying to get ahead of the rest of the sec. Knows he cant run smash mouth and outscore teams.

How can you get a head coaching job in the SEC and not know this. Football evolved years ago now. Can’t run pro style circa 2005 and expect to win against superior athletes running more robust offenses. This is one of the more sickening things about watching Pruitts offense last year.

Bama's talent can blind you to a lot of things (can run old school Bama offense, can call the same plays vs Vandy as he did while at Bama last year). He will learn things aren't so straightforward here and we need coaches and concepts with ADDED VALUE. Bama merely needs variance-reducing coaches and schemes.

OC hire didn't matter for Smart. You saw that in 2016, they took a step back!! THEN Smart brought in back to back top-3 classes. That is all that matters. Talent makes everyone look like a genius.

Pruitt has been given some really good advice from a guy that knows a little bit about running a successful offense.

if that advice is ignored, the Pruitt Era at Tennessee will be a dismal fail and cut very short -- end of story.

Sounds like Pruitt knows he just doesn't have the personnel to run smash mouth right now. If this is true it is encouraging that he is willing to mold his philosophy to fit with the team he has. That is what good coaches do. They don't try to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Like he did this season.

I don't have a feeling for Pruitt yet and don't care that people voice legitimate concerns but this seems hyperbolic.

He hired his OC, planned for scheme, and started installation before spring practice and way before many of our starters returned by fall. You can't change your entire scheme in the middle of the season.

If he's willing to change, this would be the first chance after getting a true view of our issues. And his willingness is one of the few positives I've seen. True concerns, I'm very open minded about but this seems like just a disgruntled shot in the dark.

UGA runs old school smash mouth ball. They have a stable of 5* OL and RBs. 25% of the top 100 players are on UGA and Bama for 2019. UGA playcalling is very very simple. Chaney is not the reason for their success, recruiting is. Same for Saban. Pruitt has proven he can get it done at 3 universities if he has the players. He is taking his time for a creative OC.

Not to be positive-minded in the football forum, but taken at face value, the recruit's words indicate Pruitt's choice has a proven track record (not just a few standout years with one program), and whose offenses were consistently ranked high nationally.

If such an OC's success was based purely on fielding superior talent, he would not be interested in the Tennessee position at this time.

But maybe that's just my logic...

There’s no reason NOT to announce Will Friend if indeed that is the guy. As a result, I don’t believe that is the guy. It’s either a current NCAA final 4 bound coach who doesn’t want recruiting effected, or an NFL guy. The likelihood is more on a current college guy who’s final 4 bound.....my guess is Enos.

Last year wasn't CJP's class. This is his 1st full class. Coming off of a 4-8 season, followed up by a 5-7 record, he's doing a miracle with a #15 ranking that can only get better with the last few recruits.

It’s decent but not good enough for smash mouth like the premier schools.
