A group of friends are coming to town for the game this weekend. We are staying at the crown plaza downtown and would love to hear any recommendations for dinner. We are looking to spend less than $25 for an entree and wear casual clothes. Something unique to Tenn would be a bonus. We are in our late 30's and without our wives.
Thanks

BTW we are neither Tenn or UGA fans just a group of guys who enjoy big time college football.

I've never been there, but I had somebody recommend Chesapeake's to me. It's just a couple of blocks from the Crowne Plaza.

Go to the Downtown Brewery.

It's on Gay Street, less than 2 blocks from your hotel. They brew beer in house, and have good food, all of which is very affordable.

Do not go to Mellow Mushroom. Thats about as unique to Knoxville as roads and stoplights.

It is good, but kind of going downhill. I think the Regas is still open and still great. Close to the same area.

Pasta Trio is a pretty close walk to the Crowne...it's a relatively unique place.

Authentic Italian and you can bring your own bottle of wine...or have one of theirs

And it's in the Old City which is unique to people that have never seen it

Chesapeake's probably has the best seafood in town. Regas, Copper Cellar, Downtown Brewery and Calhouns should also work for you. Been awhile since I've searched out new places in Knox.

Good call. Old City is definitely a place you should consider for Friday night.

Barley's, Backroom BBQ, Urban Bar, Sullivan's, Downtown Grill, and Nama are all good.

If you want some pretty good pizza head over to the Market Square and hit the Tomato Head, been there for a while and still has good pizza. The original Copper Cellar (downstairs) is always good for the price. Regas is overrated IMO and overpriced. If you want to pick up a 60 yo woman, head to the bar at Regas and you cant miss.

My choices would be Downtown Grill and Brewery (steak as big as your head) or Puleo's. Puleo's is one of my favorites, with the perfect mix of Southern food with Italian. You can have fried green tomatoes for an appetizer, then get chicken parmesan or lasagna. Or you could get the Ahi Tuna, which is usually my choice.

There are two Puleos, one in Cedar Bluff and one in Strawberry Plains. Both are equally as good, the only problem is, you are going to have to get in your car and drive for a few minutes to get to either one.

If you don't want to drive, Downtown Brewery is your best bet

Just an FYI there is a 3rd Puleo's on Merchants Dr, probably the closest to Downtown.
