that's not how the staff is looking at it. not at all.Does winning three or four games instead of two really make a difference with us keeping JG as the QB. He is probably the best right now because of playing time. I doubt he would be the best if one of the other guys and more specifically Mauer got to play four or five games.
I read a statement on twitter (who knows if it's true) that Fulmer told Pruitt after the BYU loss that Shrout and Maurer should get some game reps. Pruitt disagreed and a shouting match ensued. Don't know if this is true but I could see it happening. I wonder if the Fulmer is thinking he made a mistake. He's apparently given everything that Pruitt has asked for and we sit at 0-2.
Several of those were arguably better options than what we are going with now.I guess we forgot Simms, Worley, Clausen, Crompton.
Things can be much worse. The other qbs can be much worse.
Let me ask you something. Do you think Ryan Hillinski and Bo Nix are as good as they are based off how much they’ve learned since being in the SEC or just natural instincts?ok. well he's not anywhere else. he's here. and he's the best option. like i said, that doesn't mean he's great.
just means we still got a ways to go in the QB room.
Lol that’s your argument? He is already approaching his interception numbers from last year? If he had 10 interceptions then that’s a problem. However, he didn’t. He was an efficient QB.Because his receivers bailed him out. He's already approaching his #int of last season in 2 games. Let that sink in.
Yup sure is. Last season 3int to his 12tds. Not good. This year so far, 2int to 4td. Yikes. Prognosis doesn't look goodLol that’s your argument? He is already approaching his interception numbers from last year? If he had 10 interceptions then that’s a problem. However, he didn’t. He was an efficient QB.
Most of what Pruitt says makes sense to me, but he does seem to contradict himself with some regularity. Lately he has said that JG is obviously the best QB on the team and practices really well. On the other hand, Pruitt has said a couple of times that some guys practice one way, but when they're in a real game, they play a different way. That said, how do we know who the best QB is if neither Shrout not Maurer have taken a snap in a real game?
not sure what the point is? i think both of those cats were really good QB's, period.Let me ask you something. Do you think Ryan Hillinski and Bo Nix are as good as they are based off how much they’ve learned since being in the SEC or just natural instincts?
The point is one of our qbs that being criticized as not being near as good as JG has already proven to be just as good as those cats.not sure what the point is? i think both of those cats were really good QB's, period.
Bo obviously didn't have a ton in front of him from a compeititon stand point. and Hillinski saw a 4 year sr. starter get injured so he's in....
well...a lot of that, last year anyway, had a lot to do with what he was being asked to do. which wasn't much. the goal last year was efficiency, and that's how htey played him. be it because of his own limitations, lack of running game, issues with protection (all were true).......Heck if he was even remotely an efficient QB, we wouldn't even be having to dissect the BYU game right now.
Definition of efficiency : productive of desired effects especially : capable of producing desired results with little or no waste (as of time or materials)
How many games have we lost with him at the helm? If he's so efficient, why does he take 5yrs staring down a receiver and whif the play? Dude cannot read the field. If that's not the opposite of efficient idk what is.
you can. won't really change anything. i know Maurer's stats. and i know Shrout's. Shrout has a live arm. knock on him was lack of experience (missed a full year due to injury, and only started his Sr. year), and he threw a lot of int's.Or would you like me to post them for you?
Lol that’s what I’m saying. Give the freshmen a chance if you’re too scared to throw with your redshirt junior with plenty of experience. JG is obviously never going to improve if he hasn’t by nowI still do not believe JT or Maur could be any worse than JG.
You literally couldn’t even call pass plays in the 4th quarter of the BYU game. How can anyone be worse than a QB who isn’t good enough to call pass plays with? Lol.
I hope to God their idea of practice isnt JG passing at air with no pressure, cause his play sure reflects that. They need to be throwing dbs at his face on the practice field and scrimmage their little hearts out. Make him progress through his reads over and over again. They're probably already doing this. I just find it unfathomable how something hasn't clicked for him by now.well...a lot of that, last year anyway, had a lot to do with what he was being asked to do. which wasn't much. the goal last year was efficiency, and that's how htey played him. be it because of his own limitations, lack of running game, issues with protection (all were true).......
this year, the expectation was everyone would take a step forward in that regard.
hasn't happened. the biggest criticism you can probalby make about JG to this point is..........he's just the same. which isn't good enough.
problem is what do you do about it? obviously there's a push from fans to play another QB. to be expected given how this has gone.
but i'm not convinced that's going to net us anything positive. of course, i'm not convinced keeping JG is either. but from the coaches standpoint, they have to believe that the experience wins out and he can get better.
siap the other day regarding how he looks in practice vs. the games..........you never really know what you got til the live bullets start flying. well, if you want a silver lining thru this 1st two weeks i would say that now the coaches should have a really good idea of that, and what he has to get better at.........something isn't translating from practice/film study to the games.
they should have a pretty good idea on that now....
and i just can't believe Chaney is all the sudden bad at coaching QB's and offense in general.
anyway. can't defend the QB play. can't say putting in a back up is better.
it's all wait and see. if JG does continue to do the same things, they won't have a choice but to play one of the other kids.....it'll be a when, not if.....
It's not that hard to understand. Maurer and Shrout must really suck, therefore JG is the "best" option
Well all see how weak Maurers division was when Merrietta faces off with Edgewater in a few weeks. You may be surprised.you can. won't really change anything. i know Maurer's stats. and i know Shrout's. Shrout has a live arm. knock on him was lack of experience (missed a full year due to injury, and only started his Sr. year), and he threw a lot of int's.
Maurer slung it all over the place and set a record for most yards in a game. albeit in a relatively weak division for Florida HS football.
Maurer and Shrout both were great camp QB's during the recruiting process.
