Recent Quarterback play....

The point is, nobody knows that. Even Pruitts own words about some guys practicing well and some guys playing well leave it in doubt.

We are in the “easy” stretch of the season . Can you think of another year when a backup hasn’t been trotted out during the first three games to get some reps?
last year? year before that? lol.

Third season...same problems. His biggest problem now is that he doesn’t have an O-line that will get blamed for it.

To me his lack of leadership is as much of a problem as his questionable decision making. He showed us something his first game as a freshman with his sideline antics. I hoped he would mature and become the leader a QB needs to be. It appears that did not happen.

yep. and i was in the camp that wanted to see him play with an offense that wasn't a complete albatross for a QB. i don't think that's the case this year.........and sadly, he's just the same.......
My son played QB...I’m no QB guru but I do look for some things. There were a lot of tell-tale signs that led me to believe the problem didn’t lie exclusively with the O-line last year. The OC situation hasn’t helped, but his skills are very basic, or undeveloped. The same mistakes are being made in his 4th year on campus....feet, pocket awareness, TOUCH on the ball, and most obviously pre-snap reads and progressions. Any one can hamper a kid, but he’s dealing with multiple problems. And the game still feels very fast to him it seems.

see, and i thought he did a better job of leading last year. and i thought he was well on his way to it this year.

this is a "warm fuzzy" thing with me that has little to nothing to do with skill.....but you've heard "field general" before describing QB's that were considered good leaders. and usually that's because there's a lot of respect for that person among the team. either because he's good, or because everybody knows he's going to give them everything he has.

and when JG slid short on that 3rd down against GSU, my first thought was "he should have put his shoulder in to that dude, got the 1st down and set a tone for the rest of the team".

i get it, it's a "smart" play to get down. and he was probably coached to do so, knowing the shape of our QB room.

but that was just a play that stood out. i think about 40 year old John Elway diving for a first down and get hit and being "helicoptered" to the ground in the super bowl against the packers......that team got the message..............and they won the game.

now, GSU isn't the super bowl obviously......but for a team that BADLY needs an identity, badly needs leadership.....that was an opportunity lost in that category....imo.

he still has opportunities to get it back....so i'm more interested in looking forward. but if i'm being asked about what i've seen so far, that's one thing i would think is noteworthy.

totally agree. i stayed out of the QB "debates" (if you can call them that) around here...because while i certainly thought he had issues, it wasn't exactly an unknown that we were bad up front, we were bad with pass protection, we didn't have a run game and the WR's were inconsistent. andyou had a QB that didn't see things well pre snap, didn't always have good pocket awareness etc....

lss...yeah, it was a combination of things that hindered the overall passing game last year.

this year......certainly looks like some of the other things have been addressed........and he's jsut the same.

That one did stand out. I never have understood the “field general” thing, unless he has a brash attitude behind the scene. I don’t see it on the field.

He’s tough...as skinny as he is I would have assumed serious injury before now. That’s about the best I can say. Matt Simms was tough too.... but Guarantano makes Simms look like a Heisman winner.

When have you seen a backup come in when your team is fighting for their lives in the 4th quarter? Maybe this week.

i wasn't saying JG is a field genearl...just to clarify.

and he is tough. he's proved that. another reason why i would have expected him to get a little physical in that play....

you wanna see your sideline get "woke"...........have your QB truck a defensive player in route to a drive sustaining first down.......

That’s just it, in years past even with crappy teams we have been able to put away these lower opponents and can bring in a backup if we wanted to. If you were the coach, you would go with your best option. Obviously, it’s JG since Pruitt hasn’t made any changes. He’s not the best, but you have to work with what you got.

i think that was the goal against GSU, in fact i think they viewed that as the only purpose of the GSU game, which turned out to be the first giant mistake pruitt has made from a game planning standpoint. he knows we 're not deep enough and wanted to get a lot of guys a lot of reps.....so much so, you saw a lot of guys playing early that probably shouldn't have until later on.

don't have an issue with that in merit. i agree with it. but the plan was not right........

i would expect to see that change Saturday against hte Mocs........lol. lesson learned............

seriously.....coaches do not make it a habit of keeping the better players on the bench. they just don't.

lol.
Has anyone seen Tyler Byrd? This is his senior year and I haven't seen him play. I doubt JG would throw his way anyway. Talent wasted.

well, they tried to move him to DB, didn't pan out...put him back on offense, can't break in to the line up.

wasted talent? maybe. but my guess is, if it was wasted, it was probably wasted long before now.

Oh now you'll hear all about his toughness. I agree tho. I never see him coralling his boys on the sideline or making that extra push to make a play. He needs to channel Tebow and check the message he's sending the team.

Does winning three or four games instead of two really make a difference with us keeping JG as the QB. He is probably the best right now because of playing time. I doubt he would be the best if one of the other guys and more specifically Mauer got to play four or five games.
