Rebuilding yr? With 7 upperclassmen starting on defense and 7 on offense?

Is it fair to call this season a rebuilding year?

Unfortunately, the "minority" looks smarter every day. You only have to read pg 1 where people would be content in 2012 being a step behind where we were.

Despite all the nonsense, if Fulmer were still here, tomorrow would decide the SECE, and fate would be in our own hands. We would have won a bowl game in 2008, and we would have won the nine games which was just terrible before, but now would be exceptional in 2009.

That = Game, Set, and Match.

your posts are so full of fantasy and fairy tales that I expect Tinkerbell to materialize out of my phone and sprinkle me with pixie dust.

i know the staff changes affect things and i know the schollys are down to what 65-70?
but why is UT so bad this year? the last 2-3 years you guys have had a great recruiting class and have tons of 4-5 star guys, i still expected a 7-5 or 8-4 season from you, boise state has 80-85% 3 star guys and i dont wanna get into a boise topic, but you can win big with lower rated players, im from asheville nc but now live in columbia sc and have for 9 years, and trust me i have alot of vol fans i talk to that just cant believe what the state of vol football is????

Tennessee had such a ridiculous number of busts, transfers, academic qualifying issues, legal issues and underperformers from the 2006, 2007, 2008, and possibly 2009 class its staggering. 2009 shouldn't be written off yet because they still have 2 - 3 years left to develop and have had yet to have multiple coaches. Its not looking good though.

Throw in the coaching changes beginning in 2008, and its really not suprising we are in this condition. On top of that, Tennessee has been really bad at recruiting and developing OL and DL starting in Fulmer's last years. Even the good classes in the early - mid 2000's started this trend.

Since it takes about 3 - 5 years to develop lineman, we have being hamstringed by that more than anything else. The four freshman starting lineman after injuries, with absolutely no one behind them is proof of that.

On top of that, injuries have been high this year, so the shallow depth chart has even been more depleted. Also the number for scholarship layers include about 5 - 7 players that would not be on scholarship if not for UT's lack of scholarship players.

For example, we have 2 corners availabe to play on Saturday. That's not a typo. In the nickel, we will have to put in a backup safety and rotate the starting safety to corner. We will be starting a Defensive End at Tackle, because all the other tackles can't play or will be on the sideline in street clothes. We might be starting a Fr. QB, because the first year Juco is nursing an injury. Our center weight 215 lbs. this time last year and was playing JUCO in spring, he essentially was all that was left after signing day.

And again, 4 freshman on O-line. 3 True freshman I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong - the O-line has been a revolving door.

Of course, half of our fan base thinks Dooley should somehow be doing better with the biggest Cluster f*** in UT history, instead of admitting just how bad it is.

this is how bad it is and a combination of Neyland, Bryant and Rockne could not fix it very fast. gonna be longer than 90% of UT fans can stand. just reality..

Yeah, 2012 will the first year that a fair judgement of Dooley's ability to coach or not.

Its fair to say that Dooley hasn't done anything to prove he's a good coach.

Its unfair to say anything that has happened this year so far proves he is a bad coach. Like you said, Neyland would look bad.

Ok, you have NO way of knowing where we would be with Fulmer. For christ's sake you actually sound like Fulmer.

If the general were here we'd have won the NC last year and be in contention this year. Though this isn't a good analogy cause the general is way out of Phil's league both as a coach and in intellect.

'If Fulmer were here, we would be competing for the SECC and we would have won have gone 9-4 last year with a bowl win. I know this just because! Don't question my logic! Fulmer is best coach evers! I loves him!'

VolNation: "Hey Coach, how you going to do this year?"

Coach: Terrible. We have everyone coming back.

That's exactly how I feel about our Jr and Sr class. They have been decimated by departures and most of them are seeing their first real action this year. Probably wonderful human beings, but for UT football the faster those classes are cycled out and the new ones installed, the better we will be.

wouldnt say that, because you actually have alot of seniors compared to some teams (not just ours) heres what we have.

offense .....3 starting seniors
QB-Garcia-junior
RB-Latti-freshman
WR-Alshon-soph
WR-Gurley-soph
WR-Moore-soph
TE-Dimarco- SENIOR*
OT-Nunn-junior
OT-King_SENIOR*
OG-Chisholm-SENIOR*
OG-Watkins-junior
C-Johnson-soph

defense......5 starting seniors
DE-Taylor-soph
DE-Matthews-SENIOR*
DT-Robertson-junior
DT-Ladi-SENIOR*
LB-Dickerson-SENIOR*
LB-Straughter-SENIOR*
DB-Gilmore-soph
DB-Culliver-SENIOR*
S-Holloman-soph
S-Allen-junior
S-Auguste-junior

we have 8 starting seniors, are we rebuilding

Your fan base is one of the dumbest in college football. What an ignorant post. Notice all of the upperclassmen on the OL and DL? Yeah. Also, most of our seniors are walk-ons and 2* recruits.

When you have something like the 3rd youngest team in college football, then yes its fair to call this a rebuilding year

You could have 11 seniors start on O and 11 seniors start on D. But if half of those positions don't have a backup, and the other half have a true freshman backing them up you are gonna have trouble playing 60 minutes.

My point is there are alot of other factors that determine what qualifies as a rebuilding year other than how many seniors are on your team

excellent point... what most fail to realize. DL need to go 100% for 5-6 plays and their backup come in and be able to play at same level and effectiveness for 5-6 plays. Must have 6 DBs who all are "considered" starters at an SEC level. Must have 6 linebackers who can play SEC football.

Same is true across the offensive positions.

We are two more classes, at least, from having the bodies to begin to build a two deep that can go play and compete versus SEC clubs. When I say begin, means to start weight training on high school kids to get them ready to compete.

Exactly what Florida and Bama are doing this year. Most of their freshman are weight training and getting some reps to be ready in two years to start. We are several years from being in that position.

Doesn't matter.....After 2012 we are all gonna be dust anyway( After a comet smashes into the earth or whatever is going to happen).:eek:lol:

I think we have 17 total senior on the team, hopefully we'll sign 25 in jan-feb. Thats a difference of only 8 players. So next year we'll possible have 8 more players on the team than this year?? How is next year gonna be any better? This is hoping that no one wants to transfer. According to simple math, it'll be 2015-2016 before we have a full roster. There are 23 juniors on the team that'll be graduating next year and we sign hopefully 25 again for 2012. So over the next 2 years, we';l have 10 more players than we have right now. I'm basically asking a question, hows this gonna work. Thanks.

We currently have 14 seniors out of 74 scholarship players. A full recruiting class will have us back close to the scholarship limit, depending on attrition. Next year we will have 12 scholarship seniors.

2008 would have been a bowl season except for the Hambone Experiment.

We would have won 9 games under Fulmer in 2009.

We would currently be 2 - 2 with destiny in our hands in the SECE going into the last weekend of October without the coaching carousel.

Tell me how we are better off. Tell me when we are going to be better off. Both Florida and Bama as many or more freshman than we do.
This again. What a surprise.

UT loses 10 starters to graduation. The recruiting class coming in isn't good enough to replace all these players. UT has two 4 star recruits in the entire class. You think UT is bad this year.......

Stop star gazing. It will make you dizzy. :)
