I know that he will be assuming the role of QB position coach, but what is his track record. I was not wowed by USC-lite's QBs (not since Taneyhill and I was more amazed that he looked like Goldylocks rather than his playing abilities). Is this a source of concern?

Chaney will have a role with the QB's, I think. His OC experinence will come into play well in this situation.

Well I thought it was a recruiting thing more then a position coach thing. He has lane and chaney to help him learn how to be a better coach. He is family and also we stole him from the OBC so I think it worked well.

He was mainly hired for his recruiting abilities and because Kiffin wouldn't be gettin any in bed if he didn't hire Reaves. Kiffin and Chaney will hopefully handle the coaching aspect of the QBs.

SOUTH CAROLINA OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE - Football

David Reaves is in his fifth season as a full-time member of the South Carolina coaching staff after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant. After two seasons assisting Head Coach Steve Spurrier in coaching the Gamecock quarterbacks he was handed the full-time quarterback coaching duties in the spring of 2007.

In addition, Reaves was given the duties of recruiting coordinator in February 2006. He solidified his reputation as one of the top young recruiters in college football when the 2007 Gamecock signees formed a consensus top-10 class and were regarded as the most highly touted recruiting class in school history. Following the February signing day, he was selected as one of the top 25 recruiters in the country by Rivals.com.

In 2007, the Gamecocks threw for over 3,000 yards and averaged 258.2 yards per game through the air with senior Blake Mitchell and redshirt freshman Chris Smelley sharing time under center.

In 2006, the USC quarterbacks, primarily Blake Mitchell and Syvelle Newton, combined to throw for 3,259 yards, an average of 250.7 yards per game.

In 2005, Reaves assisted with the development of quarterback Blake Mitchell, who threw for 2,370 yards, the seventh-highest single season total in school history.

Reaves spent the 2004 season as Carolina's defensive backs assistant, working with the safeties.

Reaves served as an assistant head coach at Tampa (Fla.) Catholic High School for one season prior to coming to Carolina. He was team captain and a three-year starter at quarterback for Appalachian State University, where he helped lead the Mountaineers to three straight national playoff berths. Reaves was a standout quarterback at Columbia's Spring Valley High School, graduating in 1997.

Reaves comes from a football family. His father, John, was an All-America quarterback at the University of Florida and later played in the NFL. John Reaves served as an assistant coach under Steve Spurrier at Florida from 1990-92 and in 1994 and was on the coaching staff at South Carolina from 1996-97. His brother-in-law, Lane Kiffin, was recently tabbed as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders in the NFL.

No worries,I have been reading about a new formulation for "Stick-um".Holds for three seconds upon contact from center and releases cohesion at apex on release from QB,aids in performance, due to special toxins, that precipitate confidence!

I don't think you would ever have top rated talent at QB to work with at USCe. You can only do so much with average talent. I think he will have a better chance to show his coaching ability this year (even though he will have plenty of help with CLK and CJC).

I think Spurrier being such a renown QB coach, that any one having that title under him is a moot point. What happens at SC lite is all Spurrier.

Garcia was like the #4 Dual Threat QB
Smelley was the #8 Pro Style QB

Both were 4 stars so they did have at least some talent.

This too. Spurrier basically coached the QBs from what I understand. Reaves was just there to kind of observe I guess, but mainly recruit.

If reaves is going to be the qB coach, hopefully he picked up some tips from Spurrier or his dad, John Reaves, former UF QB.

Not going by what they were ranked in high school, but what their performance has been at South Carolina. Smelley had 14 TD to 15 Int. and Garcia had 6 TD and 8 Int. last year and both had completion ratio around 50% That's average talent IMO.

Your logic doesn't really make sense. Basically you say that stats=talent. So is Graham Harrell the most talented QB in the country?

I mean, the star ratings aren't perfect, but they do give a rough indicator of talent. There's a reason why Garcia was recruited by Florida, OU, Ole Miss while Orgeron was there, ..etc. Cutcliffe wanted Smelley, ..etc.

Our own Jonathon Crompton is the best example. He has all of the talent in the world, he just doesn't know how/hasn't been able to use it yet.
