The running game has been fine overall this year. Averaging 3.6 ypc against a top run defense is okay. Cutcliffe got away from it.

Creer will be the RB of the future. He has it all.

Worst need is difference makers on the d-line. Someone to demand a double team. We don't have this guy and the way recruiting is going its not likely we have him for next year either. Shy

Look at the number of true freshmen and red shirt freshmen we played. It's easy to get frustrated at times with CPF, but he put those guys on the field. Athletically they were better than our experienced guys and if he can get some more play makers this recruiting season I am hopeful we can be a championship team in the coming season since our qb gave our championship away tonight for this year.

Conservative playing not to lose play calling is what did us in IMO.

oh, all of our early defections for the NFL sunk us. I wasn't aware.

I truly thought it was the HC's job to man the roster with people capable of playing his system to the level needed to win, each and every year.

We desperately need playmakers on the dl I don't understand how we can go from having a dl that even nfl teams would want to NOTHING our line did almost nothing this year. I will say they played decent the 2nd half of this game, but that's about it.
Also we need to learn how to stick with something that works till the other team stops it. example we moved the ball very easily with the bunch formation and then it was like oh no that worked we can't do that again.
The secondary will be better next year especially if we get d morely back. and get rid of heffney, what a disappointment this year
Our running game was OK this year, not as good as years past we need to improve our run blocking.
We need to be able to throw the ball DOWN THE FIELD we didn't have a deep threat this year and everyone knew it.
Hopefully we won't have to rely on our qb to win every game, certainly didn't work this year if I had to grade ainge this year I would say c+ he made a lot of bad decisions and he has thrown more pick 6s in his career than I think anyone in the history of college football, I don't know that for sure but it certainly feels like it.
Our wr need to step up and be legitimate game breakers and I think they will

I remember how awesome the Vols were supposed to be in 2002 and 2005. We follow up SEC Championship losses with absolute crapfests. Tennessee will be horrible next season.

we got the talent we need the coachs to coach them up and teach them the tricks of the trade... which was obviously absent this year..

God I hope not. Next season is my last as a student

You're right. Foster has been really good. He has good vision, and the ability to make guys miss. He is just missing the break out speed. From what I've seen of Creer, he has the speed.

Our problems start at the top. Fulmer is too afraid of mistakes to be aggressive. He's content to play boring conservative football and hope the other team makes mistakes.

That's not the mentality of a winning program.

I was thinking the same thing tonight after the game. We were really young in 04 as well, and looked what happened to all that potential in '05. This next year crap has got to stop. We are an average team with coaches that require superior talent to compete. Next year is not going to be pretty.

This thinking used to bite us all the time versus steve-o. To bad he doesn't have the talent to continue to exploit this flaw in phil's thought process.

Well it was 47 years between national titles..........

I would be estatic about a conference title....but now it is 9 years and counting....0-3 in the title game since 98.....this season is now considered a bust...just like every year since '98

One of the truest statements ever posted on this board, imo.

Don't all coaches need superior talent to compete for BCS NC? If not then if I was UAT or USC I would be asking NS & SS for a refund....

we have a bright future. with additons/experience in the secondary. experience on the dl, a qb that does'nt have concrete in his shoes and can throw ober Gatlinburg. Foster/Hardesty/Creer/Jones/. BTW Hefney is the worst... i repeat.. the worst Safety I have ever seen play in orange. He has been consistently bad. Berry is 3 or 4 years younger and plays better.

Fulmer now owns the longest streak in UT history under one coach without an SEC title. And according to Hamilton, that's worthy of a raise and extension.

Until change occurs at the top, what happened this season is the best UT can hope to achieve.

I think the Florida Georgia winner has a shot at the national title next year.

How we fell short this year:

Thin D-Line
No playmakers on offense
Ho-Hum attitude about big games early in the year

Decent starters with no depth on the D-Line makes for teams that grind it out having a field day on us in the 2nd half... refer to every game we lost, (save the SECCG) Kentucky, & USC.

You put play makers on offense and it opens the play calling up A LOT!! Gerald Jones was injured for the 1st half of the year but that guy has to be in the game more so they dont key in on him when he does come in. Other than him... I cant name on guy on offense that was a bonafide play maker.

No desire to win big games against Cal,Fla., and Bama cost us dearly. Every one of those games snowballed at late and made it look worse than it was.

How it will change next year:

Who knows.

-- O-Line is solid
-- QB is not going to be a massive drop-off but the lost experience will hurt early
-- Receivers have to get better for offense to be more consistent.
-- Must have better depth on D-Line
-- Secondary will be big improvement over this year with our guys having more time under their belt.
