On the rivals chat I asked why Santos didn't receive and bump and was told by Brian perroni that Santos weighed 260 at the a&m camp and he was concerned about his weight gain. He then said he will probably end up a DE. If he can keep his weight down he will get a shot to move up. That is exactly why i follow espn recruiting more than rivals. Santos is a beast

Most times stars just dont pan out. Ask Bryce Brown, Janzen Jackson, etc. etc. etc. :whistling:

This guy has a lot of potential regardless of the stars. We'll see some people seeing stars when he knocks the holy bejeezus out of them! lol

It's an injustice that Santos is a 3 star on Rivals.

That being said, he could be our most important recruit of this class.

I have heard that Santos really struggles with any pass coverage and that he is purely a run stopper.

I just dont know how all these schools ever made all these years before rivals and scout came out.If these people at rivals and scout were so good then why are they not recruiting at a school?

LB, DE, hell I dont care if he ends up a DT. Dude is a stud. Will see the field his freshman year.

I can't wait to have giant LBs again... Maggitt, Johnson, and Santos... above 240 lbs each will be awesome.

I see alot of posts on stars placed on recurits. Some think it's not big deal, some do. Take a look at where the past SEC champs have finished in recuriting, all in the top 5 or at least top 10. UT lately besides the screwed up Kiffin, has finished in the top 10. Just saying if UT is not able to recurit and take a chance on some 5 stars kids and get in the top 10 they will have a problem having a chance to play for an SEC title. Look at the past and it tells you all you need to know

if he's really 250-260 and is just starting his sr yr in HS that sounds about right also him moving to DE could be true some kids can't help but get bigger

but if he doesnt gain any weight 260 is fine for MLB

He is an ILB... dude may play a little zone, but that is it. He is supposed to be a run stopper and a signal caller for the defense.

I am more pumped about him than any other recruit so far in this class.

I think it's probably a bit soon to be calling Bryce Brown a bust. He's still got 3 years of eligibility at K-State. JJ was a bust in the sense that he couldn't keep out of trouble. But as someone had mentioned in an earlier thread, some Juco is about to get one hell of a safety.

Ask top 5 Boise State and Rose Bowl Champs TCU what they think about the star system.

These rating systems have no cred what so ever.

They don't mean everything but they do mean something.

B/c they can't coach.... It's not perfect, but to think these guys are schlums like most of us here on VN who can't look at a HS video and tell if a kid is a 2 star of a 5 star isn't quite accurate either.

Dooley and co. spend TONS of money contracting out recruiting services, so there is a market for it... There is a difference between being able to evaluate talent and being able to coach. Surely you see that.

Back to Santos -

What's the general consensus on the rivals rating? Is he not actually 260? Is 260 not too big? Why are we up in arms? (Serious question)

Volfan using BB and JJ as examples of 5* players not panning out? Janzen more than BB but on the field they have both shown to be pretty dang good ball players. The star rating system doesn't reflect on character.
