On at least 4 occasions this year, (Cal, LSU for sure) A. Foster has had big runs or a reception in which he failed to make it to the endzone because he was too busy looking behind him with his head on a bobble stick versus going forward towards the endzone... Both the times listed above were 40+yds above and both times we ended up with no points... Cal's Goal Line stand and LSU Missed FG or INT... He is the first back at UT that I have ever seen looking in the Rear view Mirror.....I knew when that head was looking back that he was not going to make it yesterday....He is a good back but a little overrated...

And if he would have made a quick cut back to the left at the end of that run yesterday, he would have scored. The most dissapointing thing about that run was that he ran out of bounds on his own. If you don't believe it, repaly the play and watch closely. He runs out of bounds then is slightly pushed by the LSU player.

i think its more that he is just slow.. he has well below average speed for an SEC back

running out of bounds may be because he knew he cant get any further and scared of a fumble... remember he has a bad reputation of fumbling at critical situation...

but agreed with the main poster... he is not a fast back, he tries to stiff arm everytime..

Honestly I'm not going to complain about Foster. I really don't think anyone is overrating him really. Everyone knows he doesn't have great speed but he is getting a lot out of what he does have and does a nice job. I do agree it's stupid when he looks backword but at least he got us down the field on those occasions.

It's just cause he is a slow (relatively), power back. He's not a speed back.

Ok he is slow a power back lower your head and punish the idiot in front of you for attempting to tackle you. Do not worry about the one behind you...and if he is the power back we all know and love then we need to quit running him around ends and he needs to stop jukeing...

i wouldnt really classify him as a power back...he doesn't run people over or anything.

Usually takes 2 or 3 people to take the man down.

that should be any RB. I'll reference Curt Watson, who was really more of a FB-type playing TB but he ran through people for fun when he could just have easily gone around them.

it amazes me that he could break the all-time rushing record when he comes back next year. i have no problem with foster and i appreciate what he has done for the vols. but when i think of the greatest backs in ut history, foster doesn't come to mind. does anyone else feel this way?

Yes.

He's been a solid back. We've all been spoiled watching some of the greats come through here though.

absolutely...it almost pisses me off. I mean I do appreciate what he has done, but there is no way he could even come close to being better than Travis Henry.

wow, my thoughts exactly... he could hit the corners with ease or bust the middle with 3 or 4 hanging on for a 5+yard gain...

I like Foster but he shoudn't have looked back, The reason we lost is because ''All first round draft pick'' [Ainge] is a choker. Arian is a good back, put the blame where it deserves to be.

Travis Stephens, Jamal Lewis, Chuck Webb, Reggie Cobb, Aaron Hayden, James Stewart, Charlie Garner, Jay Graham etc.
