REALITY CHECK

We have a good quarterback, just need the offensive line to give him time.

Our O Line as a whole is the deficiency right now. Improvement and scheme around those deficiencies will go a long ways to improving the team as a whole.

7-5 is still attainable!

Well I feel better.

Pruitt asked on #VolCalls about handling a loss during a big recruiting weekend. Says there's no secrets.

Pruitt: I've been telling recruits this will probably be the worst year with me as head coach, because it's the first. But the good thing, you're not on this team.

Way to instill confidence in the current team. Maybe thats why the kids look like they lack heart when the head coach tells them.they will suck this year.

Stop looking backward, it will make your blood pressure go down. Reality is we are not and have not been a good football team in a long time and all the Volnation posts in the world won't change that. Instead of flaming each other, talking about how bad everything has been for years and over critiquing the players and coaches let's try some rational conversation around what we should expect and what satisfactory progress would look like; deal?

I'll go first:

1. We must improve strength and technique on the OL to run the offense Helton has installed effectively; can this unit improve enough to be competitive this year after the gauntlet?

2. What games, assuming our players stay healthy and grow into the new systems, are winnable? Charlotte better be easy but what about SC and Vandy? Can we upset UK (I jut threw up in my mouth a little)....?

3. What do you, as a fan, want to see to mark that this team is playing better? May be a low ceiling this year but turnovers and penalties are my first areas of focus.

Thoughts?

Go Vols!!!!!!

336 days until next season?

I find it ironic that one of the most negative posters on this board is whining about our coach being too negative. Funny.
I find it funny you cany differentiate the role pf a head coach and a nobody fan on message board.

Also didn't know that posting a message was.considered whining

I'll bite:

1. Yes, I think it is possible, but I also believe it will take more than coaching to improve. The GAF factor with ALL the starters has to increase. Some of that does fall on the leaders / coaches and maybe that's why CJP said we may see different guys emerge through the season. Some of the younger players may need a little more time to learn and adapt so break into the starting lineup.

2. Yes, like most, I don't think we have the horses this year to compete at the top tier of the SEC; however, the back end of the schedule is winnable IF we don't have another epic turnover clinic and 1 above happens. Folks can bash UK all they want, but Stoops has a very hardnosed, fundamentally sound team playing to the same music right now (kinda our 2015 VOLS....man, I for one loved to watch them play) but they are beatable, as we will see more than once this year.

3. As always, I want to see a disciplined, fundamentally sound, not scared of anyone team that knocks the everloving S#@T out of the player lined up across them every damn play....see 2015 VOLS comment above. Much like CJP says; if they do that, it don't matter what the score is...the foundation will be laid and wins will come.

1 Improvement. Get better as the season goes along.

2 I want to see a game where everybody atleast looks like they know what they’ doing...who to block, what route to run, everybody covered, ect...

3 Get us a sec win...or two. Better yet 3.

4 Give us hope that next season we’ll be back to playing good, sound, hard hitting Tennessee football.

Im looking for what comes from the team starting at south carolina.

Jg is much improved
Oline should have crushed etsu and utep no matter what, worry-some
We come out flat every game but Pruitt's passion and aggressive side is great
Oc who runs runs pass punt over and over again worries me
Rb position is deep and talented
We hav two amazing wr’s
Def looks well coached but tackling needs to improve, they may just be thinking to much as the system is still new
Hes not afraid to play freshman if they are more talented
I cant fairly judge oline coach and oc yet but im not sold on them either
Being sec trained I have more ability to trut this staff more than past ones

Not sure thats the message the head coach should spread regardless. Another misstep from a rookie head coach..

Except that he didn't say the players he inherited suck. You said he did. He simply is telling recruits his first season will be his worst. If the players he inherited are that mentally fragile then what Pruitt says won't matter much anyway. But I don't think they are that fragile. If there were quitters on this team they likely would have left the first week of Scott Fitzgerald's summer workouts. If those young men have any heart at all they will want to work as hard as they can to get better. And I think they have the 'want to', but it is difficult to overcome lack of talent, lack of proper S&C, lack of proper training, that some of those kids experienced the last few years.

This team has bigger problems than a lack of confidence in itself. And that can only be cured through recruiting better players and developing them. And it must start with this '19 recruiting class. And he has to make those '19 recruits understand that this season will be a transition season until he can get better players into the program.

It’s nothing they don’t already know, unless their extremely dim people.

The first sign of improvement has been that Pruitt takes the blame for how bad his team sucks, unlike that @sshat Lyle who prefered to break out his little balck book or excuses.
