Well thought out piece that never seems to get addressed amongst the VN faithful. Expectations are great and all, but maybe it takes a few more intangibles (luck?) to make it through the SEC schedule with 11 and 12 wins to completely satisfy the fan base. I expect UT to compete at a high level every year, but don't consider every 9 and 10 win season a failure. Sometimes the talent and experience levels are just not on the same wave length. Not looking for any arguements just another way to look at things perhaps.

With the toughness of the SEC now-a-days, everyone should be able to see some truth in this. You're still a good team if you managed 9-11 games in the SEC. To me that's not a bad thing, but every fan wants their team to be great and win 12+ -- There will always be some naysayers, unless we reach the stature of greatness (dynasty, perhaps) and yearly legit National Title contenders. I think every team suffers from this problem, but ours may be voiced more openly.. I don't know. I may be completely wrong on this though, af ew drinks can screw the perception of things.

I thought last years 9 wins was good considering what the expectations were at the beginning of the year. However, the Penn State debacle was sort of a bummer.

I don't think that VN regulars are calling for national championships every year. We haven't won an SEC championship since 1998. Ten years between conference championships is too long. Our recent bowl record against quality opponents is also not particularly good. Those are the realities we are dealing with, it isn't being negative to point that out and have high expectations.

I didn't say NCs every year, but it seems that there are not enough positive threads to indicate an appreciation for what we (Vol fans) have. Sometimes I can sit back and reflect on the fact that we are not Vandy, UK, or a Miss. school, and be very thankful. Like I first stated, I have high expectations every year and admittedly get upset when we lose games that should be wins, but I guess I just get frustrated with all the negativity sometimes. The article just seemed to put a different perspective that I know I don't always give enought thought. When we play in the toughest conference in the NCAA, we are going to have dry spells in conference championships. That being said, I also expect UT to start pushing towards having more accountable coaches because the spell has gone on long enough.

Our University makes a much stronger commitment to football than any of those universities. In fact, we make a stronger commitment than just about any school in the nation.

I just cant wait til the Cal game.. The announcers still cant remember how much of a beatdown we gave them last year... They think that Cal will beat us this time..
Our defense is better, and our offense will still be as powerful.. And our whole team is used to Cutliffe now, so everyone will be used to the offense..
And for Cal, they lost a couple of their best players.. All they have on their offense is Jackson and Longshore.. Heffney will cover Jackson all day long and it will be all good.. :)
