REALISTICALLY: who would be your choice to replace Fulmer?

I find the idea of short term solution coaches just as crazy.

The Kiffin, Davis, etc. They are only going to hang around until the BBD (bigger, better deal) comes along.
again touting loyalty as #1 when we already have that. Success and being in demand go hand in hand. Get over it.

Dale Jones would be fired in 3 years.
he won't be, because we're not stupid enough to hire him to do anything but LB coach.

Comments about 19 straight draws don't help the argument.

That's my assumption if someone was stupid enough to hire him.

Loyalty and success can still hand in hand.

Fulmer could still be successful, if hadn't tried to ride on his laurels. Now the program is at the point of no return under his guidance. He will be rewarded with a trip to the unemployment office.

Fulmer's downfall(s).

1. Loyalty to assistants who needed to be gone.
2. Absolute refusal to change with the game.
3. Complacency.

Citing Fulmer's experience as the OC during Majors' years doesn't help either. When they named him the HC, it was just an extension of "Johnny Ball".

I haven't cited Fulmer's anything. I wanted him gone very early in his tenure for his conservatism.

My top choice is Brian Kelly from Cincinnati. I like Butch Davis as well. In reality though, I'm just ready for change and am willing to give the new guy a chance whomever it may be, even if it's Cutty, although I really want some new blood.

On this point, we agree 100%.

I was absolutely livid when they named him HC. Thankfully, he did better than I ever dreamed by winning a NC.

However, I still would have been elated if he had followed his wife's advice. On the plane ride home after the NC, she tried to get him to retire.

Realistically, I'd be tickled with any of Venables, Muschamp, Kiffin, Mendenhall, Patterson or Harbaugh. I'll throw Butch Davis in there as the long shot.
Is Davis really that much of a long shot? He makes what, 1.8 mil? UT could easily double his salary while putting him in a much better position to be competitive on a national level.

Venables - Might be a good fit.
Muschamp - Bleeds Bulldawg red. We would have to pray that Richt stayed successful, or Mus would be headed to Athens the second they called.
Kiffin - No thanks. Losers line that way --->
Mendenhall - A Mormon that is in Mormon heaven at the moment. I seriously doubt he would leave.
Patterson - I'll pass.
Harbaugh - Doing great things at Stanford. Would be here only until Michigan runs off Dick Rod.

Lets not get a one hit wonder. Must be proven and must be from the West Left Coast for Recruiting. Needs to be proven option. Only person outside that mix would be an NFL Coach that is not mediocre
.

Dale Jones? We might as well hire Tee.

Mendenhall won't be leaving BYU anytime soon. He turned down UCLA last year, and then crushes them. Besides, the Mormon thing has been well debated here, and moving his family to TN would be a real culture shock. I also read an interview with him, and he won't recruit players during missions and all that. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but he's got a team that's got a huge percentage of Mormon kids on it, and someone with such strict religious standards would have a more difficult time adjusting to kids who come from low income/broken family environments where there is little or no guidance. It would be like him coming in back in 1998 and Al Wilson using the F word in pregame speeches. How would he handle someone like that?

Personally, I like Mangino. I mean, the guy won the National coach of the year last year and has taken KS as far as he probably could. People overlook him because he makes Fulmer look thin, but the man has turned 2 and 3 star recruits into 4 and 5 star playes. Don't know if he'd leave that situation though.

Cowher would be my first choice, if he were interested in coming here. He'd fix the mistake/discipline problems quickly.

There are no realistic choices to replace fulmer .............

Until he is gone.

Bear Bryant.

All we have to do is wait for Bama to lose a game. They will be down there digging him up again.

Soon as they pull him out of the grave . We stick a contract in his hand.

So if we hire Dale Jones as head coach, should we go ahead and give Ainge a chance at OC?

Bill Bates as special teams coach. Best special teams player I ever saw.

You laugh at proven head coaches and you want an unproven defensive/"assistant" head coach to take over our program? that, my friend, is laughable. At least the 3 names I offered have proven themselves as winners as HC....

I'm not sure why you think that you need to be a great pro coach to be a great college coach, but the last few years certainly goes against that. Also, Rich Rod won't be leaving Michigan soon.
