As I was thinking about Butch during the first year of his coaching some people would call into talk shows or on VolNation saying Butch has not won a big game and I would defend him and back him saying, "He does not have a good QB his defense is made of a rag tag bunch of Dooley left overs, he is competing against the SEC whereas Dooley was not even competing and most people thought this was a positive step so big game or "signature" wins would come or if you count the USC game as that then good things were to come.

Year two comes around and Butch is still using the same slogans and lingo and I thought "you know give Butch a break it is a little quirky but it is getting a top 5 recruiting class in the house (Hurd, Malone, Barnett)." He still did not get a BIG win or that "signature" win that tell everyone that UT is back. I let it go and ignored and said Butch is the man!!

Year three I thought to myself NO excuses this year no new offensive line and defensive line, no playing 13 freshman as starters or underclassman as starters in all CFB. I was still with Butch I was over his quotes and quips that he uses. After the Oklahoma loss I just thought...UGGHHH this sucks lets fix it. Florida loss, was like this is the same thing I don't think they can fix this it is Butch's fault that we loss via play-calling. Arkansas it was expected, like part of the norm. That this is how the season is going to go and players cannot get over three straight of these NO MATTER what slogan or catchphrases you use. You have lost them.

Butch is going to be here this year and next year AT LEAST, please do not talk about buyouts or we are Tennessee crap that we should get Gruden or Chip Kelly etc...

Butch is like a really smooth talking car salesman that when you go and but a car you think he is different that he is not slimy and sneaky that he is truthful of what he is selling you. he tells you all the great things the car does and the great price and how he will throw in doormats and chrome wheels. You are all in and buy the car and it is SO AWESOME driving off the lot that all your friends say how what a great ride it is and can they ride in it. After the first year you have trouble but he tells you "It happens sometimes that the mechanic will fix it."
Then the more you drive the car the more problems start coming up and you have end up replacing all these parts. Before you know it you have a car that won't work but looks really really nice in your driveway that people that come over ask you about it but you say it doesn't work anymore, I was duped but I still have it because I cannot afford to get rid of it......

The man is a great presenter and talker (great recruiter short term). But he can't coach a lick, Nor can his assistants. The recruits will not be there in the classes to come as they learn Jones is a phony who talks a lot but can't get it done on the field. No one will want to play for him and his lousy team.

He's a lousy talker lately. Quit spamming the same garbage lines Jones.

I think his only saving grace is to fire Debord at the end of the year and hire someone out of his comfort zone that will re-write the playbook and be innovative with the playmakers

Agreed, except if season ticket sales and donations take a dive the buyout will be cheaper. I believe the real question is: How could Hart be so stupid as to give a contract extension to a coach who would not be hired by any major program until he won games?

The UT athletic department is a business, and Hart is the CEO. There is not a company in the U.S. that would tolerate his decision-making.

I'll give him the win over the SC team that finished 4th in 2013. But I don't know if he's that effective at coaching players up.

I think a lot fans bought in to his:

"4" conference titles
Brick by Brick
Team 117...etc
Power of 1
Blah blah blah

Hell, there were 10 threads started about how Butch can find "diamond in the rough" players like Eric Fisher....even though he was a TE recruit and Butch coached him for 1 year. Never mind J.J. Watt.

This place is/was looking for anything to hold onto.

Did Butch Jones sell Vol fans a pig in a poke or a one owner car that's had the speedo obviously run back?

Will Jones cost UT over 14 million just to get rid of him?

Would you enjoy getting run out of town for 14 million?

Will Jones ever be looked upon in the same darkness as Dooley ?

He's a really good recruiter...he didn't have time to get a great class his first year since he was a late hire (after other had turned down the job)...but has signed two top 5 classes in a row...he'll sign another great class in 2016 and we'll actually be on equal footing (or maybe ahead) with our big game opponents...he needs some big time OL and DBs...the freshmen DL are getting man handled now but Tuttle and Mackenzie will be getting pay back down the road...

I would have loved to won the three games we lost but I wasn't thinking this was our year...since it's clear Dobbs can't pass effectively, Jones will have to find a way to play Dormady without creating a huge division on the team - because Dobbs is the leader...

I'm not giving up on the Vols...didn't when we started 0-6 and won't now....

Once the roster is back to full strength, Jones will either win or be replaced...but you can him now and we drop deeper into the pit...

I liked your post until here.

I know we all hate the youth excuse, but the truth is that the oldest class CBJ has was pieced together for the 2013 year. The 2014 class are SO or (R)FR! AKA: Underclassmen. Next year will be the first year they're Juniors and will start to mature, and once they are seniors the ball should already be rolling.

It is very rare to have to build up a school with such average and below average junior/senior talent. I think next year is the year for no excuses except the lack of superb senior leadership.

Also the WRs can't catch. Not sure what the deal with that is.

He ll run into what Dooley did when his staff jumped a sinking ship.

I ask my self that all the time.I would gladly give up that night in Tempe for the last 10 years we have suffered. It's like Moses and the childre of Israel wondering in the desert for 40 years. When will it end.We have the best fans in the world.I just don't know how much more we can endure.

I wouldn't give up that night in Tempe for anything. Won't happen again in my lifetime. The suffering will end if/when UT throws some real money out there for a real, proven coach. Being cheap has cost them a lot more than putting up the money for the real deal.

This is what you get when you hire an old washed up o-line coach to come be your OC and QB coach in the SEC. Not to mention a WR coach who sucks and bases his entire resume off of 1 single WR in the NFL. Brown is a amazing WR but I dont see him using that ole coach z stance on sundays!!!

Debord is not the problem right now, is it hard for fans to understand that players must make plays.....throwing......catching....running......and last but not least Tackling, team 119 can't tackle

In Butch Jones defense, the coach does all he knows how to do and he sticks to it...

This blaming Dobbs for the passing games woes bull**** is getting old. The coaching staff is not only not catering the passing game to his skills, they're accentuating his weaknesses by not moving the pocket, letting him read one side of the field, etc. I seem to remember Josh being a perfectly suitable passer in his time last year.

How can Pearson make plays when he gets thrown at maybe 3 times a game? How can Hurd make plays when he's running east west by design? How can Dobbs make plays when he's asked to stand in the pocket with one of the worst lines in the conference and isn't able to fully utilize his skill set? How can Kirkland make plays when he's sitting on the bench in critical downs? How can Justin Martin make plays when he's getting maybe 20 snaps a game? I could go on and on.
