"Realistic" HC Candidates

Disagree.. it's nothing short of a miracle of what he's done at Houston.

Considering the talent that comes from the Houston-LA area, I'm not at all surprised. It was bound to happen with the right coach. They were well on their way before Herman arrived as they planned the expansions, upgrades and such. very similar in potential to SMU. decent program in a recruiting hotbed. just needs the right coach, which they both have....

Butch is not going anywhere for a while. He'll likely win seven games next year and get another pass because of "youth" and a new qb. After 2018 season he'll probably be out.

What has me confused is DeBord has been working with linemen. And maybe Mahoney isn't the greatest, but it seems since DeBord came in to "help" with it, the development of linemen has slowed and in a couple of cases, regressed. Are too many chefs screwing up the soup?

The dynamics of this coaching staff has me confused. The HC is responsible for everything, good and bad. Outwardly they seem united but when the players hit the turf the product seems totally dysfunctional like there was zero coordination between the coaching staff

If Tennessee wants to actually compete for championships, there should be 3 men considered for the HC position. Figure it out. Make it work. Bargain basement hires won't cut it. Diamond in the rough won't cut it.

Chip Kelly.
Jim Bob Cooter
Art Briles.

I don't think we fire Butch this year. Too big of a buyout.

However, I think Butch needs to reassess his assistants at all levels.

If we are considering a dream team of coaches, then we need to hire someone who can go head to head with Saban. And that is a very short, very expensive list.

Chip Kelly wants out of NFL. Lot of reports out.
1. Gruden will always be #1
2 Chip Kelly can come in and show everyone how to truly run a spread offense

Kelly is a douche but a great coach. He could kick ass with our recruiting budget. Maybe being a Nike school can help here too.

I think Butch will do the job if he makes the OC
change that should have never happened. It's time that he puts Dobbs on the beach the rest of the season and play for next year.

The beach? That's a long way from the team.

Jim Bob Cooter as a OC sounds fine but as a HC scares me.

My list would be
1) Petrino
2) Kelly
3) Hermann
4) Cutcliffe if all else fails

Coaching dream team
Head Coach - Gruden
OC - Jim Bob Cooter/Cutcliffe
QB coach - Peyton Manning/Cutcliffe
Oline coach - Fulmer
TE coach - Larry Scott
WR coach - Dooley
RB coach - Gillespie
DC/DB coach - Shoop
LB - Thig
Dline coach - Stripling
Recruiting coordinator - Butch Jones

No to any Saban assistants. They are great under his leadership but not many have proved to be great winners without him. As a falcons fan I hate to say this but make Petrino tell us no multiple times before giving up. Split his buyout with donors, the school and have him pay a portion as well and give him 5mil a year. Let him have control and let him bring in his guys and we will be winning soon. He proved he can coach guys up and is an offensive mastermind and is willing to bring in DC's and let them run systems that work

 Yeah, that's not gonna happen...Even if you paid him 5 mil a year.

As I've said, JBC scares me as a potential candidate, but he'd succeed.

Plus, if you guys made fun of coach Mac's yellow horse teeth, I could respond with "Yeah, well you guys have a booger eating head coach named Jim Bob Cooter".

It's a win win for everyone.

wanted him when we hired Butch...Coach Peterson isn't going anywhere, he's a west coast guy...damn good coach though...:)

GO VOLS!
It's Chris Petersen.

Hell I wanted him when we hired Dooley and Kiffin.

And I never bought we couldn't get him. Not for a second. ADs just didn't go after him.

I understand the excitement for Bohl and Herman, but they would not be the answer. We keep trying to find diamond in the rough coaches for cheap and hope they work out. We need to do what Bama, Michigan, tOSU all did: hire prove coaches that can get the job done.

I personally want Chip Kelly, he's proven at the college level. There are others coaches out there I'd like, Chip is just my preference. And to think that he would be a pipe dream, I disagree. Money talks and a head coach is a financial investment. You pay big money for a proven winner and he will make that money back easily when he's putting teams on the field that we don't have to question from week-to-week if they'll be prepared.

If you are having dreams like that, you need new meds. Dooley back ever? No.

The difference this year than with past coaching searches is that we actually have a good amount of talent on the roster. It's hard to convince a top-notch HC candidate to come in when the cupboard is bare. Say what you will about Butch's ability as a coach, but he's a fantastic recruiter.

There's no way Dave Shart will fire Butch on his way out the door, and Butch will get at least another year under the new AD. So any talk of coaching changes, at this point, is premature. It may actually be counterproductive, as recruits tend to get informed when a coach is on the hot seat.

That said, my unattainable dream team is: Gruden (HC), Peyton (OC/QBC), Chavis (DC)

Les Miles was fired for failing to adjust, the exact same thing Butch is doing right now. Why would you even consider him?
