Realistic fans, where do we go from here?

We have to fire Debord. He's awful. And whoever is the offensive line coach. I'd fire him, rehire him,, just so I could fire him again, he is so bad

Its sad that this is the case even though DeBord is pretty much another OL coach. You'd think with 2 of them there would be progress

All be realistic, unless Jones has a 6-6 or worse record next season he will be here though the 2017 season. We simply cant afford the buyout. I do expect 2 coaching changes. In the mean time, the recruiting trail is gonna heat up. It will become hard for recruits to by in now.

Other teams (Florida, Arkansas) have made adjustments throughout the season. They have progressed. We're stagnant. We're building a mansion with tiny bricks.

Disagree that we are stagnant. We have actually regressed in a big way. Last night showed we are a team that is pschologically broken and in shambles. They showed no heart at all, no energy, no leadership, etc. Just went through the motions.

I have gone into apathetic mode as I have each year of CBJ era. I'll continue watching but focus on players now and not the team. Hurd is my focus now. E. Berry will also get my attention. Starting next year I'll be back to wearing the orange glasses. As to CBJ he want fire a single staff member. Your stuck with all those bums.
Hart want do anything because he's toast along with Jones in a few years. Only hope for early departure is the big money folks actions.

We're not beating Mizzou or Kentucky. B**** Jones has lost this team.

How do you know he lost the team? Cause Dooley did like every year ? These kids keep fighting, unlike in the past. Doesn't mean they'll win anything , but they won't quit. They're young and not beat down.

***** Jones?Seriously grow the **** up.

Pipe dream. Peyton will be in the booth. Coaching takes a lot of work and commitment. He's retiring.

I do think Peyton would love to coach Vol quarterbacks when he retires, but Butch's ego wouldn't be able to handle the spotlight shinning elsewhere.

There's no way Butch is fired this year, but the heat is on going into 2016. More interesting, major scrutiny falls to our lame AD. Hart has to go, along with Cheek. Our leadership is the main issue with the decline of Tennessee athletics. If you are, or have been in the past, a donor and / or an alumnus, let you $$ do the talking. When the fund requests arrive, take an important moment to reach out to your alumni-chapter head and let him know you'll no longer financially support UTK as long as Cheek and Hart are in power. Or call DePietro and voice your concerns.

Neither Cheek's nor Hart's blood runs orange. Cheek is all Gator and Hart all Seminole-Tide. We need leadership that is Tennessee to the corp. DePietro simply cares less about sports, but this doesn't have to make him a bad president; however, when donors stop giving, he and the board will listen.

Cheek is a joke in the sports industry. There isn't one valid reason why he should have anything to so with sports management. He honestly should have no control over academics either. He needs to control his retirement in Florida, period.

Bring Phillip Fulmer back as Athletic Director. He has proven, post coaching, he can manage $$. He's respected, still cherished by a large faction of Vol supporters, but more importantly by boosters, and the former head coach of one Peyton Williams Manning.

Peyton is the key here, folks. He can do more than anyone to help restore the glory days of Tennessee football. The minute he joins a Vol coaching staff in any capacity, we become a force in recruiting (without him even having to hit the road much ... Hire him and they will come to The Hill in droves), financial donations, fan support and media recognition, and in a positive way, not the butt-of-jokes we are now.

Peyton will push to bring Cutcliffe home for his twilight years. No one deserves the opportunity more than David. First, he's a great man. Second, he and his family loves Knoxville. Third, he's performed nothing less than a miracle in Durham. Mind boggling! Finally, he and Peyton are golden together. What high-school QB, especially the 2018 kid out of Georgia who idolizes Manning, could resist the opportunity to learn and grow under Cutcliffe-Manning?

DePietro and the board need to fire Cheek and Hart first. If you feel bad about the possibility of rescinding your financial support of UTK, consider giving your $$ to the Pat Summitt foundation. That's what I've done since the day Hart forced Pat out. I'll give to UTK's academics and athletics again when Chhek and Hart are replaced with valid, qualified administrators.

Jump on the Fulmer-Cutcliffe-Manning bandwagon and let's force the Powers-that-be to make some changes!

Go Vols and God bless you Peyton Manning.

With all the supposed talent we have at receiver Pig is the only one that has shown any consistency the last 3 years. Azzanni has coached receivers in that time and was recently promoted to passing coordinator, just in time for the passing game to disappear. He needs to go, post haste. As far as I am concerned he can take Mahoney with him.

I cannot begin to describe how much I hate this hurry up, spread/read option B.S. on offense. We need to change the offensive system, it just is not working. I want to puke every time I see the pistol formation. Butch needs to take a step back and let Debord, or a new OC, rework the offense.

One last thing. It is time for an open competition for QB. This week in practice if Dormady can make the throws, frigging play him.

Ride the wave of mediocrity until hopefully Hart and Butch are promoted to alumni.

Then the real questions begin.

Will the powers that be actually care enough to make a solid hire and not a no name cheap salesman.

History says no

This is what's wrong!! Some of you are still living in the past. Bring back Peyton. Bring back Eric Berry. Bring back Albert Haynesworth. Bring back Joey Kent. They can't play, and we need players. Besides, I want someone that can beat Florida, and that ain't Peyton Manning.

For the best intresting of TN football we need to go 5-7 and miss a bowl game. That way we fire Butch and the best staff in America. If he manages 6-6 we are going to be stuck with mediocrity for 2016 and maybe even 2017.

Obviously, CBJ isn't going anywhere for two or three years. The current financial situation will not allow it.

But, we could see some changes at coordinator positions and/or position coaches.

I doubt DeBord goes anywhere considering he just signed a contract.

Jancek? Martinez? Mahoney?

Are these guys safe? I believe after this season (5-7 or 6-6 realistically) Jones is going to be forced to make changes.

On to our opponents. Georgia and Alabama are going to beat us most likely. That sets us up with 5 losses. We should beat everyone else. Mizzou, UK, Vandy, NT, and South Carolina but we'll probably drop one.

6-6 will definitely be underachieving, but it will show whether or not the team is going to quit or come back to work each week.

Where do we go from here?

And yes, I'll be in Neyland every Saturday that there is a game. I've put up with the past 8 years and the 3 losses this year, so I'm not going anywhere.

real simple jones is gonna hold UT hostage and we are going down the tubes. thank hart for another horrible hire.

Don't flatter yourself, this Vol squad will be lucky to win 5 games, while 4 may be more accurate and deserving

Outside bet is 6. I don't see how we'd get there. I would feel safe betting 4, a little on the edge betting 5, and way out on a limb at 6.

We didn't get it done last night obviously. I was there IN PERSON and drove 20 hrs round trip to watch. We called a good game though. Deep passes. Passes on 1st down. Went for it on 4th because it was our best shot at winning. Played aggressive. We just got beat. Everyone saw why we don't pass more. We didn't execute. Stay the course. I like Jones and bailing on him won't fix it. I agree loss after loss is unacceptable. However we are getting there. We r better. NOT GOOD ENOUGH, but better.

A mule can trot around the track, too. But a thoroughbred gets there much quicker.

UT bets on mules.

It seems like Butch needs an innovator that will challenge him as OC

JMHO, Jones doesn't want assistants who challenge him. The DeBord hire was a real head scratcher.

In hiding! After believing the CBJ crap I have been telling all these Kentucky people we are on the way back and a year away from being a real factor in the SEC and National picture!

I feel so stupid, I might have to move!

i keep wanting to make excuses. but im out of them. it isnt fair to Butch that our ire from Derek and Lane is directed at his staff. They have done a great job building this team back from pretty much nothing. Could you imagine what itd be like without them?

However those expectations need to be met. If you have a great signing class, nonetheless two it should translate into wins. We are realistic and patient. We may not beat Bama, UGA, or Flarduh. But, we should beat Mizz, etc. We should show week to week improvement. Instead of being ahead and literally being stimied by teams pulling X and Y coverage dorectly out of the playbook. Listen if i didnt think we werent capable i could care less.

Derek Dooley was a joke from day one. Butch sold us the snake oil and we bought it. He either needs to sack up and take ownership of this team and win some freaking ballgames, or get out on the trail and fix the issues. But we dont have talent! We already have the talent! We're too young? Everyone is young. Its a new Ocoordinator! Its the same offemse weve run for years. Everyone else is better. Everyone else always gets better. NO EXCUSES!

Tn has the least amount of reserves of any SEC team. Butch isn't going anywhere, so your approach would do nothing.

We are stuck no matter what. We are not spending 12 mil to make him go away.
We're just not going to do it.

Our only hope is that he learns to "game day" coach, which doesn't appear to be happening so far.

Azzani, DeBord, and Mahoney all need to go.

Get a new OC who is either a QB coach as well or have him be able to coach another positions.

If so then hire a new QB coach and WR coach.

I can live with the defense right now because of how bad our offense has been. I mean we technically scored 13 points on offense. Toledo scored 16 on arkansas. That is piss poor.

Butch will need to quit hiring buddies and starting hiring winners if he wishes to stay around long.

Where do we go from here?
I think everything and everyone invested in the program is entering a time of some deep soul searching. Tennessee has a great chance to really make some strides this season (fight and compete against UGA and Bama and then win out); but also is set up to really have the wheels fly off (lose badly to UGA and Bama and then possibly drop games @ KY, @ Mizzou, and possibly Vandy and/or SC).
Is the admin willing to subjectively critique the AD and current staff against results and promote change?
Will Butch do the same with his staff and make changes where needed (both in coaches, the scheme they teach, and in how he molds his scheme to match his talent)?
Is the coaching staff able and willing to make the necessary changes to the 2-deep to put players in a position to perform to put the team in the best position to win?
Will the players keep fighting despite adversity or cave in?
Will the fans handle the next month (we all know it's not going to be easy) with some class or will we live up to the "redneck" tags many outside of the program label us as?
The month of October is going to be very interesting for VolNation.

I for one feel that based on the current state of the program, it could be a very rough month to call oneself a Volunteer. I for one will still proudly do so, support the players, and continue to demand the results that Tennessee should have. We will know what we need to know Halloween night after games against UGA, Bama, and @ KY.
