Realistic Expectations

Look at our most recent big road wins against Georgia. Also some sucess against Florida on the road. Maybe we should play in white uniforms at home.

Only one of those teams we beat on the road was capable of beating us so I don't call those big wins.

I think we flat out lose big games and I can normally attribute most of our problems to mental preparedness and lack of discipline. Until we address that (admittedly this was better this year and lack of run D doomed us) we will continue to lose games to those with near equal, equal or better talent.

His less with more results must be the reason he was on the chopping block if this season hadn't worked out. As for UA's greatness, Vandy beat them everywhere but the scoreboard, Alabama had to miss an extra point to allow them into overtime and eventual win. Fortune smiled on them where it frowned on us. Little to do with the quality of the coaching. That's the nature of competitive football.

Arkansas doesn't reel in the talent like UT. To get a five star QB, they hired a high school coach to be their offensive coordinator. McFadden is a phenom, but before him, they haven't had any superstars in quite awhile. This year is probably his most talented team and he won the SEC West with it. You might also recall that UT didn't exactly beat Alabama convincingly. National champion contenders Florida even had trouble putting Vandy away.

That five star QB committed long before Malzahn was hired and they've had more first rounders than UT over the past 2-3 years. Nonetheless, I agree that they generally cannot recruit with UT and they shouldn't be able to hold a candle to UT on the field.

This year was a perfect storm game for them against us. They had a very strong and experienced offensive line with two very quick running backs. That coupled with the fact that our defense couldn't have stopped Farragut's running game on our best night proved to be a disaster. By that point in the season, with Ainge and Harrell out, we were relegated to outscoring people. Our QB was making his first start on the road in the SEC and UA was playing for SECCG birth while our hopes had been dashed the week before. Bad set of facts for those of us in attendance rooting for a Vol win.

Malzahn was hired before Mustain committed. That is a fact. The only worthy first round pick Arkansas has produced lately is Ahmad Carroll. He isn't even that good. Matt Jones was drafted as a WR, but he played QB at Ark.

I completely agree.

The Tennessee/Arkansas game on Nov 10th, will be determined just like this years game.

1. Can we stop McFadden?
2. Can we run effectively?

Mcfadden will come out as the leading candidate for the Heismann. So you know they are going to continue to feature him, to keep the spotlight on.

So the same Arky fans that are up in arms over not establishing a passing game, and Mustain being benched, are in for more of the same, as long as McFadden and Jones are RB's at AR.

I WISH that it made a difference that the game was being played in Neyland, but it doesn't. It's an understatement to say we've under performed at home the last several years.

The only thing I know for sure is I'll be sitting at Neyland on Saturday afternoon on Nov 10th, ready for a shoot out.

Actually Mustain committed and quit visits for awhile, then magically decided to have some conversations with Cut, and it was rumored, he may be waivering. Then they hired Malzahn and he recommitted to Arkansas, never to look back.

He maybe looking forward at this point, there's speculation here in Arkansas that he may leave.

There's a book published about the Springdale High School Football Season, and the recruitment of the Springdale 5. It's "The Year of the Dog"

It was just released, and in the book, MM is quoted as calling Nutt a Dork, and saying he should be fired for comments Nutt made after the Mississippi game last year. Mustain followed that up with if they fired Nutt, they would have a better chance of signing him.

With those statements hanging over the state of Arkansas, like a mushroom cloud, and him being benched after the interception at USC, and losing the starting job to Casey Dick, alot of folks think he will leave.

I guess we'll see.

That will be interesting. If Mustain stayed and Dick kept the starting position, Mustain wouldnt start till he was a senior. And surely Mustain had to be wondering why the heck he wasnt in the Lsu and Sec cg with Dick stinking up the place. And even if he was starting...they are a heavy running team, not exactly the best scenario to get yourself drafted as a qb.
