Realistic Expectations for the season.

You are what you make of it.....you think you are gonna only win 5 games for the year ....then you are only gonna win 5....I always show pride in my VOLS...I go into every game saying "We are gonna win today"... I have faith that they will always pull it out. B/c on any given day any team can be beat ...until it says final score ...then I will always think we can win that game....Just like a hypochondriac thinks he or she is sick...then they are gonna get sick...The game of football is just as much mental... as it is Physical....

I used to believe that too until LSU and NC State.

My expectations were 6-6 with slight chance of 7-5 at the beginning of the year. They changed to a great chance at 7-5, 8-4 after how bad SC and UF have been. That's the main reason I am disappointed so far.

We should and could have beat UF. But we didn't. We have looked like complete garbage on the offensive side of the football with Play calling and execution. The WR's look like monsters, however to this point they have been soft. They need to be more physical then a 5'10 185 lb defensive back. Push him around and don't get rattled when they come up and hit you.

The offensive line has been a little worse than I expected and Worley looks better at times and then other times he looks like early last year. Jeckel and Hyde for sure. Get it together and play mean, aggressive, winning football! The offensive has played scared.

But to your original question. My outlook now is 6-6 or 5-7.

I think he was referring to an 8 loss season has never happened.

I get it, but he replied to a post that said "4 wins" with a comment "That has never happened in UT history".

Honestly cannot understand why some people are holding onto that (never had 8 losses) as some great accomplishment.

We've finished with 7 losses 4 seasons in a row. I guess it's the only silver lining some people can see.

This makes complete and total sense LMAO

What you are saying is , as Vol Nation posters, we have a direct and lasting influence on the outcome of the games.

Now that you mention it, if only I had been a better poster, the Vols would have not have blown two games this season and turned over having any chance at Oklahoma.

If I would have just put an extra " GO VOLS" out there on the internet, Worley would have gotten a little more mustard on that pass that was intercepted in the end zone last week and it would have been, at worst, an incomplete pass.

2 certain wins- UTC and Vandy
2 possible wins- SCar and Ky
1 probable loss- Mizzou
2 certain losses- OleMiss & Bama

After seeing how Jones "manages" games and performs as a head coach on Saturdays, I'd say 3 wins is the max.

5-7 overall.

I am with you on all of this.

Pinkel doesn't get enough credit for being a solid coach.

It's setting up perfectly for SC to right the ship against us in a revenge game at home.

Kentucky is looking vastly improved over the team that lost by 13 with a WR playing QB last season.

Lot of people counting those as automatic wins when they are anything but that.

Well seeings how previous games cannot be used as future predictors, you are wrong. Teams can and do turn things around all the time. UT can turn it around.

I've been sort of negative lately, but I can agree with this. I'm just in the "believe it when I see it" category. Maybe the Florida game woke this team up.

UTC....W
Ole Miss...L
Alabama.....L
USCe.....Close L
Kentucky.... Close W
Mizz... Close W
Vandy...W
Bowl Game.....W

7-6 over all. If more Wins I'll be happy. Be upset with not making a bowl but that's the fun of being a Vol fan (sarcasm)

Just curious. Why do you think USCe is a loss? I really don't at this point.

I said last year before the season that I thought of all the games UT was supposed to lose... that one had the best match ups for a win. UT won.

This year I expanded that by saying I think the match ups between a Jones coached team and Spurrier coached team would almost always favor Jones. It goes to style on both sides of the ball.

But specifically this year, UT's struggles are because of the OL. USCe has been subpar on D and has particularly not gotten good play from their front 7. They are bottom 3 in the SEC in scoring D, total D, sacks, tackles for loss, run D, and passing D.... and they don't force many turnovers either.

Their D is more in line with ASU or USU than OU or UF.

On O, their strength plays to UT's strength.... their passing game vs UT's back 7.

Further, they appear to be getting worse rather than better and the Ol' Ball Coach's schtick of throwing coaches and players under the bus doesn't seem to be working for him.

Things change and injuries could definitely impact this game for either team... but if they were playing this Saturday I would expect a UT win. And NO... I didn't say that before OU, UGA, or UF. I felt UF was "winnable" but came far short of calling for a win.

Unless we have a miracle with the Oline. I see another 5-7 season. I'm not so sure yet that Vandy and Kentucky are sure wins?
