Realistic Article from a Duck Blog

Oregon's QB has effectively the same game experience as Matt Simms, and exactly none before 105,000 fans 3 time zones away.

Boise State's defense has fewer 4 and 5 star recruits than does Tennessee and they played VA Tech much better than Monte Kiffin did. UT's DC built the BSU defense scheme.

Bottom line: Remember a 35-0 lead vs. Cal in 2006. Vols have a very good chance to beat Oregon. Too many variables to give it to the Ducks just for showing up.

Comparing the 2010 vols to that super talented 2006 team is craziness.

The 2006 team was, arguably, one of the best UT teams Fulmer ever had.

They were literally a few injuries and a few plays away from a much bigger season than what they ended up with.

=====================

The 2010 Vols have more 4 and 5 star recruits than both the 2006 Vol team and the 2010 Oregon team.

UT still has as much speed as anyone.

No one knew Alabama's 2008 team was going anywhere until they punched more highly touted Clemson in the nose.

You think some bad press, bad luck and a hard schedule means the Vols are cooked? Dream on.

UT has won more foootball games than anyone since 1925 (tied with Oklahoma), and hasn't been pre-season #1 more than half a dozen times.

Bottom line?
How does that 2006 vol team compare with the 2010 team?

I've stated above why the 2010 Vol team could/should be more talented than the 2006 team.

But it's less about the Vols than the visiting team and their challenges. The Cal bears were swamped before they knew what hit them. And they were loaded.

Errors aside nice article. All we gotta do to win is keep the TOP on our side and power over their small defensive line. I see a big day for the running backs Saturday.

Even in our worst years we've had one of the best defenses in the country and I expect this year to be no difference.
Oregon doesn't see the kind of speed that the SEC does week in and week out. They had better not come in here expecting to run all over us because they will be in for a surprise.
We may not be deep but we do have talent.

...expect Oregon to pressure Simms and try to make him uncomfortable in the pocket.

Man, some hard hitting analysis there. Does Chaney know about this? Someone send him a link.

I know in my football coaching experience (more specifically defensive coaching experience which extends as far as the Playstation 3 controller) I would usually want the QB to feel totally in control and comfortable in the pocket. Make him feel as though he has ultimate pocket presents (sic), if you will.
