This post is purely speculation, but then again so are 95% of all posts on here it seems.

I think that the reason Fulmer wants a denfensive coach is because he has an OC already set up.

I think he wants to bring Tee in as OC so he can mentor him to be a Head Coach here one day, and get more VFL in key roles.

If he's not bringing in Tee, then it's just that Fulmer feels confident in his ability to help out & staff coaches with the offense.

Otherwise I really can't figure out why Fulmer wants a defensive HC so badly... anyone have any ideas?

If that’s the plan he’s meddling too much.

If you hire a coach, you let the coach choose his own staff.

2 of the 4 head coaches in the playoffs were DCs prior to being head coaches. If you look at successful coaches in the SEC - the numbers are even more staggering. Fulmer likes the grittiness and attitude that comes with defensive minded coaches.

If you are taking the HC job, if the AD tells you who to hire, you tell him to go jump in the lake or take that contract and use it as toilet paper. AD should have no say in who you hire, only in $ figures on what you can afford.

Fulmer is an AD now; not a head coach. He needs to hire a head coach and let him do the rest. Geez.

Any head coach that has his staff picked for him is mediocre. That's just the simple truth

So the new head coach is cook with the AD picking assitants? That will eventually replace him? Seems like a good chemistry building exercise.

So PF has known Tee would be his OC even though he waites till today to contact him?

Exactly what lines are we reading between?

If Tee Martin accompanies Pruitt or Tucker it won’t be with a “head coach in waiting” title.. which begs the question.. Why make a lateral move to Tennessee anyways??

The only way Tee Martin gets the Head Coach in waiting title is if Kevin Steele or Les Miles gets hired.

Not many coaches want jobs where you are told to hire X person and Y person for your staff.

Tennessee isn't exactly a great spot to land right now. Adding you must hire these people would do nothing but make the job less attractive than it already is.

If Tee makes a lateral move it's gonna be a retread coach who isn't desired anywhere else. (Miles/Steele)

That is a long way of saying, and I should know about that, "I don't know what's going to happen"

Yeah, that's what we need to REALLY make the HC position enticing.

Tee is never going to get full credit at USC under that setup. If he takes an OC job for a defensive head coach it's all 100% his baby. His stock could finally skyrocket with that responsibility. For now he doesn't deserve full Credit and it hurts his resume

The only reason I can think of is because it has been reported that Tee is only allowed to call plays on 1st and 2nd down. I would imagine it would be hard to market yourself as a head coach when you dont even have full control of the offense.

Yea, but look at the teams they inherited when they took over. You think Kirby Smart would have had Tennessee in the playoffs in year 2? Not a chance.

He doesn't get full credit now because it is common knowledge he is not the only one that calls the plays.

Reading between the lines...Steele, Tucker and Pruitt have something in common.

This.

Besides, Tee will enjoy working for Coach Tucker. Everyone has always said Tucker is one of the finest people they've ever met.
