Haven't been there in a couple years but good info. They moved to the old Common Market bldg right? As long as Barry is still there the BDT will be ok.

I used to love the summer horseshoe kickoff when they had the grill going

Given all the changes on the strip in the last several years. The place I miss most is the Roman Room

I always enjoyed going in and getting a great sandwich and a cold beer from Gus...

Oh, no doubt that I was a naive 19 year old kid....but there was a also no doubt that almost everyone else on my hall in Greve freshman year had the exact same opinion of Gus.

Hope you guys don't mind....

I'm with a group of late 20's, early 30-year olds. We'd love to hit up the younger, fun bars to see what the college scene really is in Knoxville. We're staying at the Hampton Inn Downtown near the stadium.

What "area" is best to hit? Ideally, we'd like to just jump bar to bar all day Friday and Saturday. It sounds like the area around Cumberland near campus and a pocket called "old town" near downtown -- is that right?

Any help is much appreciated!

Downtown, Gay Street and Market Square is the real hotspot now. Any kind of food or drink is available and it's very close to campus, the Strip and the stadium, hotels etc.... Hope you have a great time in Knoxville> Couple of places still viable on the Strip (Cumberland avenue right in front of the campus)...both should have plenty of hot chicks to make your visit enjoyable..

Excellent. Are these more upscale places, or are there a handful of holes in the wall too? Money isn't the issue, I'd just like to see what it would be like as a student drinking in Knoxville.

Outside of Half Barrel, everything on the strip is a hole in the wall. Pretty much the opposite in the old city. Most students don't venture to the old city too much, it's more of a mid 20's and up scene. Definitely hit up Barley's in the old city though, it's always a good time.

Gotcha. Sounds like we should probably hit up the strip on Friday and Old Town/downtown after the game and into the evening on Saturday.

It's not even that. It looks like it's about five or six blocks from the Hampton Inn downtown.


By the way, how are cabs in Knoxville? If we wanna head to the Cumberland strip to hang with the college kids, is it easy to nab one. I have a feeling the ladies won't want to walk a mile in heels.

Cabs are constant issue in Columbia. Didn't know if it was the same in Knoxoville.

Downtown Grille and Brewery on Gay Street is my favorite place in Knoxville. Great beer and food. And after a UT win its a great atmosphere.

No no no. Preservation Pub in Market Square. Cairo Cafe on Gay St for hookah/beer/liquor/mid-east cuisine, and Longbranch on Cumberland if you're into cheap canned beer and pool/pinball.
