Both Chandler and Gray are doing very well. However, CJP made a comment during the Missouri game halftime interview, where he said they need to do better at breaking arm tackles.

In 2017, 247 Sports listed Ty Chandler @ 5’10.5 187lbs. In 2020, he’s listed at 5’11 205 lbs.

In 2019, 247 Sports listed Eric Gray @ 5’9.5 194 lbs. In 2020, he’s listed at 5’10 205 lbs.

Both guys have made size gains, but they are still on the small side for an SEC all-purpose back. They were small when they were recruited.

Is there an opportunity for a larger back in this offense and if so, who could that be? Is there an immediate option?

All of our options are hurt right now. Doesn’t seem like Crouch will be getting any carries going forward.

As far as bigger backs that we have on the roster (not counting Crouch), I think it is only Tee Hodge (~215 lbs) and Len'Neth Whitehead (~225 lbs), though not sure how ready they are

It's what we've been missing for a while and you can tell it's what Pruitt wants with his targets in recruiting.

We recruited Tee Hodge and Whitehead as big backs but I'm not sure if they'll get any meaningful time this year. I do believe Hodge was having a good camp but is nursing an injury.

Next year we will have Cody Brown coming in who is a big talented back that should be getting some early touches. He lacks top end break away speed but should be bruiser we need. Unfortunately, Tiyon Evans decommitted who was a bowling ball of a RB and I was personally excited to see play here. I think we are still in the mix somewhat but you'll have to head over to the recruiting forum for better info.

In 98 Media Guide: Jamal Lewis SO 6-0', 220; Shawn Bryson SR 6-1, 220; Travis Henry SO 5-11, 212; Will Bartholomew FR 6-0, 220. Jay Graham is also a 6-0. I have no issue with 6' RBs
Travis Henry is likely 5'8 5'9 tops.

Jabari Small is nowhere near 6'0. Prolly 5'10.

Gray doesn’t look like he has the frame needed to get much bigger than he is now. He will eventually top out at 205ish would be my very uneducated guess

Small is listed at 6' 200 lbs so he could add some good weight.

Had a couple of stout runs yesterday.

Don't see him developing into a between the tackles bruiser overnight though.
He look very short and small on the field compared to Gray and Chandler. I bet he is 5’ 10 or shorter and less than 200 even though he ran like he was 225 on his first carry.

I am surprised that some of you are falling for the RB is too tall conversation. Welcome to VolNation!

RB is generally thought to be the easiest transition from hi school to college. Most difficult thing for an RB to pick up is pass protection schemes. That is most likely why we're not seeing some of the other guys..

Whitehead is a 225lb bruiser. Hodge is 215. Dee Beckwith, unfortunately, has been hurt...he can have an immediate impact all over the field. Seriously. He has practiced at wildcat QB, RB, slot WR, and out wide at WR....he is a mismatch nightmare at 6ft 4 235lbs, and fast.

I pull for Hodge because he is a hometown kid and all Vol...but if you guys have never watched tape on Lenneth Whitehead...there's a reason he was a solid 4 star across the board. He will be a factor in the future at RB...i am thinking CJP will try to redshirt either Hodge or Whitehead if the others stay healthy. Judging by PT so far, neither has cracked the top 3 RBs yet...probably still learning the playbook, as well as missing so many practices due to the virus bullcrap. They can each play in 4 games and still redshirt this season....

Anyway, we are deep at RB and have some good prospects for 21 as well. CJP has truly done an amazing job building the roster...and i am not a sunshine pumper. Time will tell if he is the coach to return us to greatness...but as far as recruiting and building a team from the trenches out, he has been outstanding. 4 out of 5 OLinemen are 5stars. Thats as good as it gets. We ran a QB sneak from the 3 yard line against Misery . GO VOLS. BEAT JAWJA!!!
