Raymond Cotton

Rivals doesn't have UT on his list but they can be a little behind sometimes. ESPN has the most up-to-date recruiting news plus you can get evaluations and videos on the kids for no cost. I think Gieco or somebody pays so we don't have to

What does Florida's depth at QB look like?

Because other than them, I can't seem him wanting to play for any of those teams listed over playing at Tennessee.

sure sure..turn down boyd and petty because they don't fit the pro-style system...but then recruit cotton who is one of the best scrambler's in the nation

i dont see the fit

Heard him mentioned when TT resigned and many claimed he was similar to Tajh Boyd, wouldn't fit the system. However, I don't know anything about this kid so I will defer to someone with more knowledge about him than myself....

Not a fit.

From ESPN.com

The issues with Cotton stem from his lack of fundamentals and discipline in his mechanics. He can do some wonderful things with the ball physically, but in the passing game his footwork can get him into big trouble. Throws off back foot too much and he does not show consistent accuracy yet. Has little to no experience dropping from under center. Will throw the ball up for grabs and make risky decisions which he will not get away with at the next level. Must learn the passing game and become a better decision maker with the ball. Level of competition is a concern. Overall, Cotton has the tools, but the rough edges must be chiseled off. Very good prospect with a lot of upside in the spread scheme.

did you guys look at the film on him? He's got great size and a great arm...good footwork and throwing motion. Just because Tahj was fast wasn't why Kiffin didn't want him at qb...it was because Tahj and Petty both weren't great passers like this kid and plus Tahj was only 6'1"....The evaluation by ESPN says he is a good pro style prospect that has the athleticism to make him good at getting out of pressure in the pocket...I'm just saying he fits the system...Tahj and Petty didn't they were just not good prospects

just watch the video on him and tell me he doesn't have a good arm and could be molded....maybe he doesn't fit the system but IMO he could

Yes, he has a decent/good arm and could be molded.

That said, Kiffin most likley will not waste a scholarship on him. He would prefer to land the ideal, top teir Pro-Style QB in the 2010 class.

Yeah i was thinking that CLK didn't want Boyd or Petty bc they had weak arms or at least showed they couldn't make certain throws well. Watching that guys film he has a cannon for an arm. One throw he is on the run throws a 30 yard stripe across his body. Tall with a strong arm is what Kiffin is looking for, IMO he fits the bill. But that doesn't mean Kiffin will go for him.

maybe this guy could be a reason CLK got rid of Boyd. Maybe he knows something we dont.

No. Kiffin did not know TT was going to be let go and he did not know James Willis was going to be let go.

This guy was not on Kiffin's radar before and I doubt that he is on his radar now.

The guy looks like a great project. Maybe Kiffin thinks we have enough project qb's already on the roster though.

I think CLK goes for him. 6'4" rocket arm. Can be great deep ball passer. Sounds like a fit. They can teach him to take snaps from under center. Its not his fault his HS runs a spread.

Too bad ESPN does a terrible job of rating the prospects.

CLK didn't like Jomarkus Russel or Tajh Boyd in his system.

Why would he want a hybrid version of the two? After letting TB go, the next QB better be 6'5 or taller, have a laser-rocket arm, and incapable of scrambling.

This guy is exactly like Taj Boyd, if by the same you mean they are both black. After that, not at all the same. Taj Boyd has the potential to be a Pat White, if lucky. Last thing Tenn. needs is a 6"0" (according to rivals) QB trying to throw over 6"6" SEC lineman with 7" wing spands.
Not saying we should go after Cotton for sure, but he sounds like he has more upside than Boyd. The thought of Boyd (or anyone), basically running the "G-Gun" with some screen passes makes me want to puke. Boyd might end up being the real deal, but the day of the 72" QB is nearly gone. Their descriptions make Boyd sound like more of a true runner, Cotton more of a scrambler with a cannon. I know Boyd says he wants to play in a pro style set, but so do I. Doesn't mean we can be succesful. Cotton sounds like his arm and size at least give him the potential to succeed. But who knows.

Jesus, in that Video he slings a 40 yarder with as much effort as I use to throw a nerf basketball across the room! Having that kind of arm is a hell of a starting point.
