Ray decision and Clemson's raid is so disheartening...

It'd be nice to see Butch turn it around this year but I'm out of faith in his ability to do anything more than what he's already done. Two depth classes in a row and blowing the best chance we've had to take the East in almost a decade with losses to SC and VU. What more proof do we need? I really want to know from sincere believers in Butch exactly how many more seasons and recruiting classes do you believe this guy needs to at least win the division?

I'm not a "Butch believer" i just believe in letting things play out and then making a sound decision. FSU faced a situation similar to UT with Fulmer. They chose to ease Bowden out slowly, we jumped ship on Fulmer quickly. How did that work out?

An even better example is Texas...they started with a co-HC, then got impatient.

Let's see how Jones does in this rebuilding year, and if he does well enough to survive, 2018 might be really good. We won't know till we get there.

Well if what a lot of you people on here say is true, then maybe the "great" recruits don't wanna come here, because they will be executed on here and Twitter for making a mistake.

Ray wasn't disheartening, for us to even be in that race was fun to watch.

What hurts is only pulling 1 of the top 5 players in your state.

I've been preaching for years that we didn't need clemson being successful. We have a hard enough time being surrounded by strong programs.

Butch had to beat USC and Vandy, but we lost those games. He made his job 100 times more complicated when that happened. He probably won't recover from that nail in his coffin.

But as a program we are 99% better now than we were when Butch took this program over. If Butch survives this year then he will have done the best job coaching than any of his past years coaching. I hope he can pull it off, but starting a new QB with our schedule doesn't bode well for us to win 10 to 11 games.

You're hinting at a connection that just isn't true. It sounds like you are saying Tee Higgins and Amari Rodgers signed with Clemson due to Butch losing to SCAR and Vandy. Everyone who follows recruiting knows that when a player commits to Clemson they are guaranteed a spot. If that player takes any more official visits then Clemson will pull that guarantee. No one flips after committing to Clemson. Higgins and Rogers commited during the summer, before we lost to SCAR and Vandy.

Bandit, it's my conviction that we gave Fulmer too much time. We had a lot of options in 2005/6. By 2008, we still had choices but chose unwisely. I realize Butch is here for 2017 because there's nobody in place to get rid of him even if they wanted to. I think his seat needs to be hot as 10 hells right about now and it needs to stay that way until he wins the East or hits the road.

You reap what you sow. Everyone wanted Fulmer out but didnt think of the consequences of what that might entail. Tennessee sticks with Fulmer, they get tajh boyd and probably win the SEC within 2 years.

This is hilarious!! Fulmer ran us into the ground. Fulmer would have been let go even sooner if it weren't for Cutcliffe coming back from Ole Miss. What was Fulmer's record without Cutcliffe?? I'm pretty sure Cutcliffe was the brains of the operation. Also why didn't anyone hire Fulmer after we let him go? He was interested in the Louisville and Clemson jobs.

7th Best Class in the SEC......... oh well, Butch, all that noise you talked about how good of a coach and development of talent you are............2017 is your year to PROVE IT..... no more Barnett to save the defense............no more Dobbs to save your O-line......

Wasn't this past season the for him to PROVE IT???? Team was full of seniors.....that were contributors....

It seems people are always ready to get rid of a coach because you expected more then what you got for the last season. Yes we could have done better but not for,the reasons you think. There are few if any teams that could do as well as we did with the number of injuries we had this last season. Should we still have won the South Carolina game, probably but with Dobbs staying up to 3 and 4 o'clock in the morning so he could get his school work done that week it made a big difference. He is a student athlete though so school is more important than football. I know a lot don't believe that but it is the main reason they are in school, I repeat, school. Don't expect much better this year because of the key players we lost. This is college football and the players are not paid to play and we can't just go offer bigger money to get them to play here. Quit making the outcome of the football games a life and death situation and you can enjoy the games so much more. No, I don't like to,see the Vols lose but, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Go Vols.

I agree with ya. Enjoy every game, the season is short. Don't let the loses linger after the game.
As for departing talent, I guarantee there will be some new players step up this year to replace the departing players. May not be at DE but maybe a LBer, or corner not expected. There will be stars next year. Maybe even at QB. Returning players should get better. I definitely don't desire freshmen having to start. I've not seen Trey Smith play, but I'd think Richmond would be a better player right now than Smith.

We had 1 senior who was a contributor on offense (Dobbs) and 2 who were contributors on defense (Vereen and Sutton). We lost juniors who were big contributors. Those don't count in response to your post because you specifically said seniors.

If it sounds that way, I didn't mean for it to.

I believe Higgins and Rodgers were recruited by a heck of a recruiter that could back up what he was selling with his recent results. Dabo negatively recruited Butch by quoting receiving stats between the 2 programs and that Clemson would showcase their talents better.

I'm fully aware these guys were gone before the 2016 season played out.

Actually Smith, Gray, and Chandler as a group are every bit as good if not better than any three instate players who went elsewhere.

Debatable, but even if factually true, having 3 excellent players like those isn't the issue.....the issue is that there aren't enough of those caliber players in this class.

Alabama signed 24 4 and 5 star players
Georgia signed 20 4 and 5 star players
LSU 16
Auburn 11
Florida 11
TAM 9
Even South Carolina signed 6

Tennessee signed 5 4 and 5 star players..... that's the issue.

Agreed. Really pulling for Butch, but he's got to grow.

The '14 and '15 classes were the foundation to prove himself. He did prove himself, but not in the way we'd all like.

Now hoping he can take what he's learned, form the proper chemistry among current staff / players and over achieve in '17. If not, the fans will become even more restless, seats will empty, and we'll be on to the next coaching experiment.

Either way, GO VOLS!!!

And apparently he had to turn all the 4 and 5 star guys away because we have so much good position competition that we couldn't guarantee playing time. Lol.

I think classes ranked 6-15 are very similar/close in talent and it all comes down to how well they are coached up. Let's just hope Shoop and Company can get our defense squared away. If they do, I think we'll be just fine.

Unless it really is Jon Gruden replacing him, let's hope there isn't ANOTHER coaching search next year! I really want to see CBJ succeed here!

Well guys he picked who we all thought he would pick...the evil empire. Did anybody out there really think we had a chance with this guy? Butch Jones just doesn't land these types of recruits...so frustrating. Maybe if he was a WINNER we would have wooed him...oh well the rich get richer totally sickening!

Its also heartbreaking to see our top TN talent heading to Death Valley. Dabo is raping Butch. Its not good. Its actually embarrassing. So here is my advice to Butch...quit losing games you should win and get over the damn hump and maybe things will change!

Still a solid class...but it is hard to watch players like Higgins decommit and go to Clemson...ugh.

Higgins went where he wanted to go, get over it. Had he come here and had a bad game? Think about the kinda crap he would have had to put up with. What his Mom would have had to put up with.

There is only one thing that is really embarrassing. And that is fanatical over reacting. See above for prime example.
