Rating this gen's systems?

something that is always getting left out of these arguements are facts. let's look at a couple. keep in mind too that i'm only talking about multi-platform games because exclusive titles can be tailored to fit the system in what ever way they're needed.

the ps3 uses a Cell processor that runs at 3.2 ghz, the same speed as the xbox xenos processor. the xenos uses 3 cores to run the games and the OS while the Cell uses only one core to run both. the xbox comes with 512 mb of ram compared to only 256 mb on the ps3 dedicated to gaming. the xbox has 1mb of cache memory while the ps3 only has 512kb of cache space. so far no huge differences but then comes the frame rate. the xbox can process 500 million polygons per second compared to the ps3 and it's 275 million polygons per second. polygons are the triangles used to make images in games and as a reference point, a car in a racing game such as need for speed which puts emphasis on the looks of it's cars, uses a minimum of 10,000 polygons per car and up to over 20,000 per car, so the more detail to a game, the more polygons. this translates out to roughly 60 frames per second on the xbox compared to 30 fps on the ps3. this is one reason most reviewers of the systems give the xbox the lead in graphics and how smooth the game plays. i don't have the stats on the wii so i can't compare it. when you turn to power usage, the wii is much better. for a system left on ALL the time, the ps3 will run you about $134 a year, if you bought it after 2007 but will run you up to $160 a year if you have the older model. the xbox will run you $104 a year, after 2007 model, and $143 if older. the wii will only cost you about $10 a year if left on all the time, which is better than the xbox and ps3 even turned off which rates out at $10 and $11 respectively. hopefully some stats will help with this debate, but i seriously doubt it.

If I wasn't married and my stupid wife wouldn't dropkick me I would buy a PS3 just for The Show.

It must be nice to be rich and just buy all the gaming systems. Or just buy a PS3 for blueray and one stinking game. Holy crap there are starving people in this world guys. I am one of them.

so you're just in denial?

no. there's absolutely nothing that i enjoyed more on the xbox 360 than i do the ps3. that's just my opinion, however. i also have never had a game freeze on me while playing my ps3. that happened frequently on my xbox 360.

the new system update for ps3 has friend list text chat while playing. what excuse are all the 360 homers gonna use for the 360 being better when they get voice chat while playing? it's probably right around the corner... =)

Lol - text chat! What an innovative advancement.

The excuse will be and always will be 90% of their friends have an xbox 360 and prefer to use it. If most of my friends played a ps3 - then I'd go with a ps3 - that's the most important thing to me.

it was meant as a sarcastic response. i have both and i like the equally, i think it's more the game than the system and whichever most of my friends are playing it on, that's the one i'll buy it for.

i was aiming that at bassman, sorry should have quoted.

its all in fun ne ways...

I love my 360 but can't believe the limited light gun options. Who the hell gets drunk and plays those Cabelas hunting games with a freakin control pad??!?!?!

I have a 360, had a wii but sold it, and just got a ps3.

The 360 has some awesome games that are exclusive to it (halo 3, gears of war 2). I did, however, have it freeze up alot, and some games won't even play now (halo 3). I know that live is pretty cheap, but paying for it is very annoying to me, because I don't play all that much.

The wii sucked for me. It's fun for about 30-60 min if you are playing with a bunch of people, but single player blows. I hated playing madden on my couch and having to "throw" the ball and snap it and crap like that. It just seemed like one big, cheap, gimmick to me.

The ps3 is very fun right now. I like that I don't have to pay to play online, I really dig having a bluray player, and I LOVE the bluetooth controllers. I play call of duty: world at war online alot right now, and it's a ton of fun. I find that there are less annoying 8 year olds cussing and singing into their microphones on the ps3 than there are on the 360.

Basically, it comes down to personal preference.
