What is everyone's system of choice for this gen? I own all 3 (360, Wii, PS3) and both handhelds (DS, PSP).

If I could only have one console this gen, it would definitely be the 360. Overall the system has by far the best library of games and the best online gameplay. You do have to pay for Xbox Live but I think it's well worth it. The downside of course is the RROD problem and I curse Microsoft for letting such a flawed design be released. But overall I think it's the best.

I would probably put the Wii slightly above the PS3. The Wii is vastly underpowered compared to the other 2 and I personally haven't been as impressed with the "motion controls" as I thought I would; they've only really worked well in a handful of games and otherwise they feel pretty gimmicky. The firsty party titles like Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 are awesome but the 3rd Party Support is just crap and mostly shovelware. But I have found about 10 games I've liked and I like being able to get old school games on the Virtual Console.

The PS3...well I've been the most disappointed with it. I own 5 games for it and really there isn't much else I want until Uncharted 2 comes out. It's supposed to be more powerful than the 360 but honestly I've yet to see a game that proves it. In fact many of the games that are on both the 360 and PS3 actually look better on the 360 IMHO. The PSN is free but how about some voice chat?

As far as the handhelds, I don't play them nearly as much but I'd probably choose the DS over the PSP, simply because I've enjoyed more games for it.

Epic fail. If your gonna compare systems at least show proof that you actually ever seen in person a ps3.

he said he owns 5 games for the damn thing and is waiting for Uncharted 2 to be released.

I'll admit I was disappointed in my 40gig PS3 for it's lack of backward compatibility and it's super high failure rate. It was fun while it lasted.

the newest Jasper-core xbox 360's are where it's at though. they run cooler, they're quieter, and are built better than any previous generation.

xbox live is also 100x better than PSN.

Probably still wouldn't rate the Wii above the PS3. Really depends on what type of gamer I guess... more casual ones then sure I'd rate the Wii higher.

Maybe the fact that he said PS3 has no voice chat.....or that the 360 looks better than the ps3. They may be some games that was just a cheap port that looks the same or better but games designed for the PS3 looks better than games designed for the 360.

Oh God this thread is so open to personal preferences. I dont think you can just say 360 of ps3 are better, is all comes down to what you prefer. This argument will never be solved because it really doesnt matter what you think, everyone has their own opinion and just leave it at that.

So you're telling me MGS4, Resistance and R2, Uncharted, and Heavenly Sword, all of their visuals couldn't be done on the 360? That's plain laughable.

Name me one game exclusive to the PS3 who's visuals are plainly some that couldn't happen on the 360.

And yes I did forget the last major firmware update did give voice chat, however I don't feel like plunking down $50 for the headset.

I fail to see why it's "laughable". I mean obviously there's a LOT of people that prefer the Wii over the PS3.

not really. the wii and ps3 are just completely different systems. one is aimed at a more mature crowd, while the other is for the more casual gamer and/or younger crowd. the controls are an entirely different animal. and the game libraries are completely different as far as content goes. like everyone else has said on here, it's just a matter of preference. i'm not a ps3 basher....i had a ps and ps2 for years and loved them both. but there is no "fail" here. just a matter of what the guy likes....

yeah we all have our own opinions, but anyone who is a hardcore gamer, (and judging by by all the systems he says he has, he must be) that says they prefer the wii to the ps3 is laughable and seems to be a huge fail to me. that is MY opinion.

now if i was between the ages of say 6 and 12 or 50-70, i might tend to agree.

All ages really. I know tons of people my age that aren't really that into video games - but if they're going to play any system - they're going to play the Wii.

I never said there wasn't a key phrase there. I took it that you implied that only little kids or old people could enjoy the Wii more. Casual gamers of all ages enjoy the Wii more than the 360 or ps3. If I'm going to have a get together/party or something small I'm going to want to have a Wii as well. (I sold my Wii btw and no longer own one - didn't use it enough)

So...if I'm a "hardcore gamer" and yet I've enjoyed the Wii more than the PS3, then suddenly that's "laughable"? Well I guess that's fair since I kind of find your reasoning laughable.

the title of your thread is "rating " the systems. i am sorry if i find it laughable that someone that owns all three would "rate" a wii higher than the ps3. trust me when i say, i am happy that you enjoy it more. maybe you should have titled your thread "which system do you like to play the most?". its all good tho. i knew i should have left this thread alone. heres 10 min of my life i'll never get back. *sigh*

i traded my 360 for one a year ago. at least i played the 360 occasionally. :banghead2:

I've played a PS3 but don't own one. The online seemed like a mess compared to XBox live and the multiplatform games looked pretty much identical (Call of Duty 4, Madder, NCAA, etc.) The PS3 exclusives that I played did not impress at all (this was a year or two ago) with games like Resistance and Warhawk.

I own a Wii. I have 6 or 7 games for it but I never play it unless I'm drunk and playing bowling or one of my kids needs help on a part of the game.

I've owned a 360 since launch day. The main pro is xbox live. The main con is the console dying once per year and having to send the thing off.

360 - 8.5 / 10
Wii - 2 / 10
PS3 - Not enough gameplay to judge

something that is always getting left out of these arguements are facts. let's look at a couple. keep in mind too that i'm only talking about multi-platform games because exclusive titles can be tailored to fit the system in what ever way they're needed.

the ps3 uses a Cell processor that runs at 3.2 ghz, the same speed as the xbox xenos processor. the xenos uses 3 cores to run the games and the OS while the Cell uses only one core to run both. the xbox comes with 512 mb of ram compared to only 256 mb on the ps3 dedicated to gaming. the xbox has 1mb of cache memory while the ps3 only has 512kb of cache space. so far no huge differences but then comes the frame rate. the xbox can process 500 million polygons per second compared to the ps3 and it's 275 million polygons per second. polygons are the triangles used to make images in games and as a reference point, a car in a racing game such as need for speed which puts emphasis on the looks of it's cars, uses a minimum of 10,000 polygons per car and up to over 20,000 per car, so the more detail to a game, the more polygons. this translates out to roughly 60 frames per second on the xbox compared to 30 fps on the ps3. this is one reason most reviewers of the systems give the xbox the lead in graphics and how smooth the game plays. i don't have the stats on the wii so i can't compare it. when you turn to power usage, the wii is much better. for a system left on ALL the time, the ps3 will run you about $134 a year, if you bought it after 2007 but will run you up to $160 a year if you have the older model. the xbox will run you $104 a year, after 2007 model, and $143 if older. the wii will only cost you about $10 a year if left on all the time, which is better than the xbox and ps3 even turned off which rates out at $10 and $11 respectively. hopefully some stats will help with this debate, but i seriously doubt it.

Which was the freakin' point of the thread.

Just wondering why you would title a thread "ratings" when it would have been more appropriate to title it "my personal preference". You are going to find that this thread will only create arguement and not be about system ratings at all. Just my opinion
