Rather have Gruden or Heupel?

After bringing our program back from the dead and doing so with a limited number of scholarship players, Heupel stays in Knoxville as long as he wants to stay, as far as I'm concerned (not that I'm Tennstud's nephew, a Haslam, or anyone else who actually has the authority to decide).

It’s funny how narratives change. I’m sure there would be some Vol fans who would rather have Gruden but I’d think the poll would be hugely in favor of Heupel. 80/20 Heupel? Before Pruitt it would be almost 100% Gruden, probably 75-80 Gruden when Heupel was hired.

Am I wrong thinking TN got a better coach than Gruden would have been?

Don’t think JG would have a better overall record than Heupel. Do you?

I think most programs would rather wait until Gruden is in his prime before hiring him as their head football coach, so these posts will just have to continue until he is 80 years old or so.

We have to have at least one of these threads every season. At least this one is making a case for why we would not want Gruden. This horse is paste anyway.

Somebody is going to pick him up after his statement this week. He's getting his name out there early. Let's look at the hot seats: OK KY MS AR. OK is the biggest program with the most fan support.

The only coach I'd want over Huepel is Nick Saban and I know he wants to return to the SEC

Possibly or it could blow up in their face. The Belicheck at UNC still needs to play out as that one has been "interesting" so far. Solid NFL coaches haven't really done that well at the college level. The two exceptions where Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carroll. All of the others have struggled.

Both Harbaugh and Carroll would be successful at any level. Bill Walsh could also be mentioned. He had success at Stanford after 49ers
