4.61 40 time..... I figured he would run a 4.47-4.52 range, maybe he tweaked his hamstring?

I couldn't agree more with Gaulden... If he was on a better team he would of got more recognition... Day 1 or Day 2 draft pick... Kid is very football smart... Plays with an edge...

The Super Bowl Champs Philadelphia Eagles
selected a defensive (end) player from Tennessee
with the 14th pick overall of the 2017 NFL Draft.

(If people outside of Tennessee couldn't understand it then, well, it looks like the work of unmistakable genius now.)

Named to the PFWA 2017 All-Rookie Team,
Derek Barnett recovered the fumble on the now famous "Tom Brady strip sack" in the final minutes of the
Super Bowl this year to secure the first Super Bowl victory ever for his team, the current world champions. That's clutch performance when it matters most, at the absolute highest level.

The last defensive (safety) player from Tennessee selected in the first round of the NFL Draft before
Derek Barnett, was a man who needs no introduction unless it contains words like All-Pro, Pro Bowler and MVP.

You'll remember more specifically that he was drafted with the 5th overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, the highly esteemed star safety, Eric Berry.

Both of these Tennessee Defense legends landed with teams who, today are even more happy with their wise decisions than they were that day when they drafted them with their top pick while they could.

Both Berry and Barnett are known for their toughness and aggressive domination on the field with motors that cannot be stopped no matter what.
.

If it's 300 pound Offensive Linemen double-teaming
Derek Barnett, they still cannot stop him from getting to the quarterback because he is a true champion who will not be denied.

If it's a dreadful diagnosis of a deadly disease designed by the devil himself to destroy Eric Berry, then that defeated devil just had to go back to hell disappointed, because Eric Berry overcame it and the same year was awarded the ESPY Comeback Player of the Year for his performance returning from chemo-treatments to earn All-Pro honors and make the Pro Bowl.

These aren't descriptions of your ordinary pro football stars. These are men who honored their big brothers who played for Tennessee before them like The Minister of Defense Reggie White, the immortal defensive end, and The Inspiration Inky Johnson, the legendary Tennessee cornerback, who both left them their legacies in spirit and tradition.

It didn't stop there because it continues today and will continue tomorrow.

You see, Berry and Barnett didn't just honor those who came before them and call it a day when they were drafted with their team's top picks in the first round.
They did just like Reggie, Al Wilson, and Inky did and left the legacy to their younger brother to honor and continue in spirit and in truth.

When you study the film of Rashaan Gaulden and see the receivers he covers stifled, the ball carriers lambasted and still lying on the field like they never got tackled like that before, the interceptions, stripped fumbles forced and recovered, the pass breakups that frustrate opposing quarterbacks as much as those coverage sacks, you recognize an intangible greatness. It honors those early first round top picks and Vols For Life who left for him the legacy of legends to continue this great tradition at the highest level where he will one day leave his own.

He’s the polar opposite of KMac. Kahlil had a good combine performance, but when you turn on the game film, it diminishes his value. Conversely, Gaulden had a rough, if not fairly disappointing combine, but when you turn on the tape, you see a helluva football player and the bench press and 40s mean very little. Somebody’s gonna get a very good football player imho.

His combine numbers were DREADFUL!

But his college game film is not. He may drop down a bit because of the combine numbers, but someone will get big value from him when they take him because the film shows he’s a fantastic football player, not a workout warrior. He plays faster than 4.61 and stronger than 8 bench press reps.

He had the worst 3 cone drill (by a long-shot) and the worst vertical of all the CBs. Bad enough of a combine to significantly hurt his draft stock.

Go and look up Antonio Brown's combine numbers.

Tape over the underwear Olympics.

Rashaan Gaulden is a stud on the field. And that is what matters most.

Spot on. The combine is the only thing that matters, on the field play has nothing to do with anything.

Compare McKenzie to Payne at AL.. not even the same universe in terms in making plays and effort

Payne is the best defensive lineman Saban has ever coached and a surefire top 15 pick in a loaded draft class.

There is no shame in Kahlil not being as good as him. KMac is still a starting caliber NFL defensive tackle that will play for a long time in the NFL.

I just don’t see how you can say he’s a starting DT in the NFL when he was absolutely a non-factor most of his career.. I think he should feel fortunate should he make a roster

I disagree KB. I really liked the young man. Heard about what a hard hitter he was when on The Hill. He had a few plays this past season, his best one by far but he was nothing special at al, most of the practice talk rarely translated to the field for him. The combine numbers are rather shocking and actually may be exposing the young man for what he really is, an over achiever. Big Tuna rule, you are what your numbers say you are.

I actually agree with you here. Some people are gamers that’s just how it goes. Played basketball with a kid who in practice was unstoppable. Did every drill the fastest hit every shot could run and jump with the best of them. Lights came on and crowd came in he faded big time. To this day I go play pick up ball with him and he can score on anyone. A simple men’s league game he is no where to be found.

This.

Combine ain't everything....But, combine numbers like that are a big reveal that will scare everyone away. Those are in the high school player skill range.

And a guy with hugh school skills can over achieve in college, like rashaan did, and a guy with college level measurables and skill can over achieve in pros, like dat gyuen....

But numbers like rashaan posted are the very reason they have an nfl combine, to keep from wasting time, draft picks and resources on a college overachiever who lacks the speed quickness and strength to be any sort of factor on Sundays.

Even if you really, really liked Gaulden, as a GM you almost can't like him now. The numbers are that bad. There is no measurable upside, the red flags are there. Many DL and linebackers outperformed him in vertical explosiveness and agility drills.

Realize his 40 time and bench press were possibly his BEST numbers. Harrison Philips can jump higher, and he's described (wrongly i think) as unathletic, his cone and shuttle were not far off from Rashaan, and this is a DT who ran a 5.21 and BENCHED 41 REPS.

Couple that with the fact he had one decent season, and nfl have talked a lot about the "double bird"...its actually the first paragraph on his draft profile.

Can't belive he left early, bad advice or clueless self delusion. Maybe some of both.

Sad for him and volnations. We could have used him another year, and he obviously could have used the extra year of preparation.

Honestly, I don't understand why he is not being listed as a safety.

He will have to get stronger, but his speed would be more than enough since he wouldn't be covering off the LOS.

Instincts. Much like AJ Johnson, he has a nose for the ball and is usually headed to the right spot before others. 40 time doesn't matter if you are headed the wrong way.

You parade around this site as if you’re an expert of all things college football, NFL draft and NBA but your predictions are never right, bud.

I’ve already exposed you for claiming that Kamara was your number 1 RB in last year’s class even though you made a thread last April 3 weeks before the draft about how James Conner (a guy who rushed for 144 yards and 0 TD’s last year) was the best RB in the class. If I exposed you for all of your incorrect statements we’d be here for days, so allow me to point out some of your funnier ones.

-After we lost to A&M in 2016 you predicted we’d play them again in the SEC Championship game...except neither team made the SEC Championship game

-Before the season last year you claimed that the 2017 team was a 2nd coming of the 1998 team and said that we were in for a special season and that we were going to shock a lot of people... except we didn’t win a single conference game and had the most single-season losses in school history

-Another preseason prediction was when you declared that Tennessee would have the 1st or 2nd ranked defense in 2017...except we ended up with the 10th best total defense in the conference and gave up 413 total yards per game

-The week of the Georgia game last year you claimed that it wouldn’t even be close and that we’d win easily 35-13... except we lost 41-0 in the biggest blowout in school history

-More recently you predicted that the Celtics and Thunder would be in the NBA Finals, and you better believe that I’ll be following up with you on that one as well...the funniest part is that your very next post was one claiming to be “an expert when it comes to basketball analysis” before declaring OKC as the 2018 NBA Champions

Below I have provided photo evidence for each incorrect prediction. Consider me your fact checker from now on.

Tuesday March 6th 2018–the day that D4H took an L.

Go and look up Antonio Brown's combine numbers.

Tape over the underwear Olympics.

Rashaan Gaulden is a stud on the field. And that is what matters most.

LOL, you recently read an article titled, "Antonio Brown is a good reason not to obsess over Combine Results".

Didn't you?

Problem is, Antonio Brown had perfectly GOOD combine numbers, nfl starter level combine results, no red flags there.

You didn't put it in perspective, because you don't really understand football.

4.54 40, 13 reps of 225, 34" vertical, 6.98 3 cone and 4.18 shuttle ARE NFL quality combine results.

The article you saw (but didn't read or understand) points out they arent freakish and that he isnt a workout warrior....BUT

In Antonio Brown's case they had tons of freakish game film and stats from college that were freakish, with 3700 yards from scrimmage over 3 years.

And despite all those stats and college freakshow film...his less than freakish NfL combine numbers he posted keep him from being drafted until the 6th round.

So yeah the combine matters, a lot.

Especially when you are running 4.64, pushing up 8 reps, jumping 30" and posting 7.16 and 4.33 in the 3 cone and shuttle. These are not nfl level numbers, they aren't pedestrian, they are terrible.

For reference here is Florida DT taven bryan's numbers....4.98 40, 35" vertical, 119 broad jump, 7.12 cone, and 4.48 shuttle and 30 reps of 225. Compare Gaulden's numbers....

And this was florida's underachieving 300 pound defensive tackle from last year. With college production on par with k-mac.

And we all know who Antonio Brown is today..and he's no roshaan gaulden. I thought a comparison guru such as yourself would do better in that regard.
