Rashaan Gaulden interview

meh not really. the games we were underdogs we lost, and the games we were favored, we blew a few of those big ones along the way. i can agree he may of stabilized the program, but there werent really any big wins mixed in along the way :dunno:

we were underdogs 2013 vs (#11) Scar..was the first win vs a ranked opponent for us in 6 years in year 1.

we were also 2 point dogs that year @ Kentucky where we won 27-14

underdogs vs #15 UGA in Neyland in 2015 .. won

and in 2016 I would classify the VA Tech game, Florida and Georgia all big wins.. were underdogs @ UGA and I believe closed close to a pick em vs Florida.

Dammit,.... you just made me defend Butch for a second.:thud:

Point is we can all hate the man as we should, but there was some good sprinkled in with the nonsense.

If we pulled out those 3 wins Butch would still be the head coach. Let that sink in. On the other hand I have no issue with a player sticking up for his coach even if most of us think he wasn’t a good coach. That’s what you want to hear from your players. Gaulden should be an excellent pro. He has all the tools to be successful at the next level.

There were some really good moments, you pointed out a few. I could quickly counter with the worst loss in program history (59-14 vs Oregon), the worst home loss in Neyland in program history (41-0 vs Georgia), the first time we’d lost 3 out of 5 games to lowly Vandy since the 1920s, and, of course, the worst single season in program history (4-8/0-8 in 2017).

So sure, there were some high points, although few and far between....and as we saw, the bad far outweighed the good as everything he “built” in 5 years was essentially a house of cards.

Real leaders dont need buy in. They just get after it, cause thats all they know how to do it.

Bozo the Clown could be head coach, and ballers just get ir done. Yes, i just said Butch is like Bozo the Clown.

Nothing about that is true.

Not a fan of Gaulden's on field antics but he said the right things about the program and about IBJ. That was a class act.

Kamara played behind jalen Hurd and that's the staple of the butchy era. Buy in or whatever the man was the worst personel coach I've ever witnessed in my life as well as the dumbest. Good luck to gaulden, I hope he balls out but butch jones is now Sabans coffee bringer and we are better off.

His skin wasn't thick enough. Didn't handle adversity well. It morphed on him. Capable coach. When he reached the threshold of the next level he stumbled.

Even if he had thick skin, he'd still be gone because he sucked. Butch is average at best, and horrible at worst, at player evaluation, player development, and in-game coaching. He wasn't capable at this level.

The thin skin, dumb sayings, etc. is all secondary and wouldn't have mattered if the team was winning.

I wouldn’t expect him to say anything else than this even if he hates Butch. He’s essentially in the biggest interview of his life right now leading up to the draft. He has to compensate for the on field display and what better way than to say I’m a coaches guy? I really think it’s nothing more than a little self PR.

I hope this glowing review of CBJ is just Gaulden being PC and not kicking a man when he is down.

Otherwise, his draft stock could suffer from a lack of good judgement. lol

Thin skinned, rah rah coach who speaks in tongues. That's what Memphis radio said about butchy last year and I cussed at the radio in my truck hoping that the material on the radio wasn't the product and boy I was dead wrong.

I'm glad his ass is gone.

Logistically, he could.
A lot of announcers do this.
Gene Deckerhoff does both FSU and Tampa Bay Bucs.
But, getting rid of Kesling would only happen if Pruitt and Barnes wanted it.

Pruitt and Barnes are employees, not Vol network executives. Getting rid of Kesling will happen if the sponsors that buy commercials get tired of listening to him, and they realize how many fewer fans actually tune in. The coaches wanting him gone would find themselves quickly replaced if they rocked that boat.

Kesling must have compromising pictures of someone to still be on the air. Only thing that makes any sense to me.

Stop minimizing Butch's role at Alabama. You know just as well as the rest of us he makes the Back Yard burger runs too.

not a very good job defending him either. in 5 years, the only "big wins" you can point to are against s carolina, kentucky, and 1 credible upset win over georgia in 2015. thats all you could come up with during a 5 year tenure at the university of tennessee....thats sad.

then you have to go to the disappointing 2016 season. sure we beat a less talented VA tech team on a neutral site(pretty sure we were favored in that game), then wins over florida and georgia that again, we were favored in if im not mistaken. plus, thatd be ignoring the horrific defeats to vandy and south carolina, combined with the absolute ass spanking bama gave us.

point being, if the only big wins you can hang your hat on during his tenure involve s carolina and kentucky, well that speaks volumes to me

We should honestly give these players a 100% pass on this kind of thing. Players like Rashaun laid it all on the line and was angry about losing week after week.

He is 100% Vol. The best way to win is to buy in totally and support your coach completely. Had those players sit around debating like us, we would have been winless.
