The Short Version is, I think Mike Hamilton's office ought to be cleaned out by Monday morning.

I agree that it was time to replace Phillip Fulmer. Now it didn't necessarily have to be done last year, but it needed doing. I think we might ought to have waited until there were less years left on Phillip's buyout to do it and we had fully studied the situation and had a top coach in place to replace him with.

Oh, I forgot, someone put UT on the hook on Phillip's lifetime contract that automatically extended if he won 7 games. The buyout on that contract was never going down.

Then there's the Kiffin hire. I'm not sure what possessed Hamilton to hire Kiffin and pay him what we did to come here. It's not like he had any experience as a head college football coach. Oh, I forgot, he coached the Raiders 3 games into the season before being fired. Yeah, he was an assistant. Basically Kiffin had the shortest resume of anyone I've ever seen to come up with a 3 million a year contract to run a major program.

Yes, I along with most Vol fans got behind him this year, but we'd get behind anyone who is leading our Vols. If Obama was coach, I'd still be for Tennessee and support our team.

The thing that stands out to me is the idiocy of the AD allowing Kiffin's assistants to have contracts that puts the university on the hook for hundreds of thousands of dollars if we don't want them anymore to the point that whoever is the new coach will have to make due with Kiffin's reject assistants.

Mike Hamilton is supposed to be the business manager for the Athletic Department. IMO, getting your company into a situation where you have ridiculously 1 sided contracts with your employees is the fault of Management and I'm not sure the board of directors should tolerate that from management.

hamilton's in way over his head in this deal. UT needs to bring in some big time negotiators / talent evaluators.

I don't have a problem with the hires...but I do have a major problem with the contracts, no money owed by Gran and Wilson, and only 800k by Queefin, that's ridiculous.

What has hamilton accomplished?

From what I understand, Hamilton was brought in to clean up the AD budget. He's a businessman.

I would imagine he's not running around as some football talent evaluator. We have most likely hired a firm to give us lists of coaches and breakdown strengths, etc.

He's the face of the AD, but he isn't making these decisions alone. Ultimately, though, he is accountable because the buck stops with him.

Were Gran and Wilson even on a multi-year contract? Most assistants are year to year, I believe.

From what's being reported, that's an issue with hiring a new coach. The new coaches as expected want to bring in their people, however there are buyouts on the existing assistants that make it financially prohibitive.

To me, that is a problem and very poor performance from a business aspect of the person in charge allowing those kinds of contracts. The person in charge is Mike Hamilton.

I realize Athletic money is not necessarily public money. That said, a lot of tax dollars go to support a football game. Maybe the profit the Athletic department makes needs to go toward helping with the expenses it creates for the city, state, and university rather than outlandish coach salaries.

Give the man a chance to do his job. Kiffin is a jerk, but he brought life to the program. We now demand for more. Hammy will bring home a winner. I HOPE.
