I have had that same thought. Hard to really hope for that though, huh?

That cheatfest that went on in Neyland back in 2002 alone is enough to make me hate Bama. Also, I used to really hate how they would get to play Florida in the SEC championship all the time just because there weren't any other good teams in the SEC West.

After not being able to make it to a game in five or six years, that was the first one I went back to. Sitting in the rain and watching that debacle just sucked.

Multiply that times 1971-1981 and 1986-1994 and you'll know how us old-timers feel about them. One of those fun old college football games, my arse.

It's similar with our rival game. If a rival stinks for multiple years the students and young kids will start to focus on the powers of the conference. All they need is one mind numbing loss followed by the rival fans being obnoxious and they will come over to your side.

Its relative to who you coach against. IMO, in the 90's Spurrier had the best program in the league and Fulmer was 2nd. In the early 00's Saban had the best program and Richt was 2nd.

Now, Meyer has the best program and Richt is 2nd. I don't think Spurrier would have had the success he had, if he had been coaching against Richt or Saban in the 90's neither would Fulmer. Spurrier has the disadvantage of having to build a program to NC level at SC now. I think Spurrier is doing well recruiting and that will translate on the field. So will Saban.

I don't think the future is particulary bright for Fulmer or Richt now.

i agree with pretty much all of that, except that last line. coaching debate aside, neither GA or TN will be lacking in talent over the next 3 years or so...and with that it at least puts us and them on closer to equal ground with the talent level at places like LSU and FL currently.......it doesn't necessarily mean we're going to start winning all those games, but i'd say right now the next 3 years or so look pretty good to me. And Richt will be fine. the only thing he doesn't have is a NT....multiple division titles, multiple conf. tiltes.....

Considering Houston Nutt has been "saving his job" every other year by having an average year... he should be 9th or 10th. Les Miles has only choked with the best players in the nation and doesnt know how to manage the game well... Saban is a great coach but has been out of the league so you really can't rank him yet in my opinion. Same with Spurrier.. USC isnt exactly the premier of the SEC are they :p... maybe if this ranking was 10 years ago he'd be on top.

The Florida guy is full of crap. Florida has so much more in-state talent than any other school in the SEC that a deaf/dumb/blind person could put a winning team on the field. Meyer has shown he can win in 1st 2 years with some one else's recruited players now let's see if he can win in year 3 with some of his own recruited guys. CPF is no worst than one of the top 3 coaches in the SEC. BTW, this stuff about UT always being the most talented team is a lot of pure BS. Anyone who claims Tennessee was more talented than LSU/Fla/UGA the last 2 years doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground. Oh yea, Nick Saban is such a great coach that he got his ass run out of Mich. St because he couldn't compete with Michigan/Ohio St./Penn St./Iowa/Purdue on a yearly basis. Tell any one in the Big 10 what a "great" coach Nick Saban is and they will laugh in your face.

i agree about his assessment of fulmer. we almost always have more or equal talent of our opponents

IMO the best way to rank these coaches is from the perspective of an AD of a Div 1 school and you had the opportunity to hire any coach in the SEC and in order of your preference.

Here's who I would want:

1. Meyer
2. Spurrier
3. Richt
4. Saban
5. Tubberville
6. Fulmer
7. Miles
8. Nutt
9. Brooks
10. Johnson
11. Ogerron
12. Crooms

I'm more impressed with what Meyer did at Utah then Spurrier at Duke. He won an NC at Florida at UT and has had 2 undefeated, Spurrier none.

Meyer coached in the Mountain West conference or whatever when he went undefeated. The ACC is a considerable amount tougher with teams like Virginia Tech, Boston College, Georgia Tech, and other teams that can be good at times. Im pretty sure Spurrier could go undefeated against Colorado St., Wyhoming, and teams like that.

Meyer has only coached one undefeated team.
