After going to Fl for the '98 game- longtime ago, i know: It's FL! Our fans getting hosed down, piss throw. It was like WWE getting to the stadium.
'98 was in Knoxville. I think you're thinking about the 1995 game in Gainesville. My twin got DRENCHED in urine because he was in the Pride of the Southland Marching Band. They were seated next to the Florida section and was turning toward them blasting Rocky Top at them when Tennessee built up the 30-14 lead in the first half. As the wheels fell off the wagon during the second half, the Florida students were pissing in their drink cups, passing them to the people seated at the end of the rows who would throw it all over the band. It sucked, because my bro was supposed to ride back with us, but not like that, even if it was a rental car.
At least we were adults in '95. They were really bad in '91 & '93 when we were still kids. On the way to the car in '91, I saw a Tennessee fan with a very young daughter, like around 6 years old or so, and her face was bleeding. The dad was pleading with a police officer to do something. The cop said, "You lost. Go home." The dad threw what was left of his drink into the cop's face.
The only other stadiums I've been to have been Birmingham/Tuscaloosa many times from 1985-1999, Lexington during all five 1990s games, Columbia in 1994, Vandy a few times in the '80s & '90s. Georgia in '98 & '00. Florida was the only place with legit bad fans. Everyone else was cool at least 99% of the time. Kenny Stabler let me put on his Super Bowl ring at the Bistro in the lobby of the Birmingham Hyatt (now a Sheraton) the morning of the 1985 game, so I'm one of the more pro-Bama fans you'll ever meet even though I usually root against them! Most fan bases have been really great. My rankings would be:
1. Florida: by far the worst. Nobody else is even close.
2. Tennessee: bad experiences seated in the row in front of the frat boys at the 2009 Georgia game. So disrespectful to my elderly father. Neyland ALWAYS has too many drunks who can't hold their liquor.
3. Georgia: a Georgia fan and former UGa swim team member, David Crowley, still owes me $19 on the bet he lost on the 1998 Georgia game.
4. LSU: a few fans acting weird in Atlanta either before or after the 2007 SEC championship game. Not mean people, just passive-aggressive sort of like Canadians.
5. Bama: really awesome fans, supernice for the most part. A few sore losers after the 1995 game as I was going around picking up abandoned game programs & stubs in empty Bama sections the 4th quarter.
6. Kentucky: the Wildcat football fans aren't smug like the basketball fans. They're really cool and really nice.
7. Vandy: supernice fans. When I was a kid, an elderly Vandy fan flagged me down and wouldn't let me forget an item I was about to leave behind at my seat. Such a kind gentleman!
8. South Carolina. Awesome fans, my favorite. A dude who didn't look like the type to carry a slim jim opened the door to mine & Dad's rental car at the motel the morning of the game after I locked the keys in. What a super guy, a LEGEND! Their fans are always nice anytime I encounter them.
Not enough experience with the other fan bases to rate.
