It's interesting to see how many don't see us as top 10 destination.
It just seems contrary to our remarks on how easy it should be to hire a top 5 coach and staff.

Define "finish the job"

Gotta be careful with that!

i think most any school on this list could be a top 5 program, if it decided it wanted to be.

that said, i do think the past 10 years has run us down the list quite a bit. and there's always been some natural berriers for us...specifically in state recruiting historically. TN was always viewed as a program that had to recruit nationally to stay at/near the top. that's changed somewhat over the last 5-10 years with the up tick in in-state talent.

the biggest hurdle i think is simply the overall leadership dynamic, coming off the title IX, and having 4 coaches in 10 years, and the future of this one kind of in question.

despite all that, and my current feelings on CBJ, i do think we still have a good opportunity to get back to being a regular fixture in the top 2-3 of the East, and the SEC.

a lot depends on what happens with the AD hire, and the next year's recruiting cycle, and seeing if all these coaching changes are what turns the corner.

it's an opportunity to do more, but we won't know the result probalby for a year or two.

for now, i think the ranking is fair. if CBJ flames out, we'll drop, as more evidence of the leadership and direction of the program shift in the wrong direction, if the opportunity is taken advantage of, we should move up.

All the reasons you listed Jake is why it may not be as "easy" as often expressed here.

Keep in mind that I didn't say 'impossible'.

But as you said, every school on that list could possibly etc.. There has to be more to it than "why don't we just" as often used here. Why don't the rest of them?

oh, it's definitely a fluid situation. and not nearly as simple as some believe it is. it's the Alabam effect, and i know some will scoff at that, but it's true.

i just stopped worrying about Alabama. we play them every year, and we'd like the opportunity to play them twice. and when you play them, you just take your best shot.

when i compare us to what i call contemporaries, i'm looking at mainly our East rivals, and maybe LSU, Aub, aTm from the West. are we competing with those kinds of teams? if the answer is yes, then we're putting ourselves in position. if the answer is no, then something may need to change.

and i've not been shy about my feelings on CBJ, and i'm not happy w/how last season ended, but i do think we are still in a position to have the oppportunity to remain competitive with those types of teams.

but it's fluid, as i said, this year on the field, and this 2018 recruiting cycle will tell us a lot about what we are doing with that opportunity.

25. Miami

"The off-campus stadium, 30-plus minutes from campus, is always a hot-button topic, but Hard Rock Stadium has seen significant upgrades to offset some of the geographic angst."

They built a Sonic Drive-In in the Wal-Mart parking lot across the street from the stadium. Talk about upgrades baby!!!!! :pepper:

I like that Sonic. Happy hour beers.

Some of you all are off your rockers with these lists.

Clemson in the top 20 is a joke..

Notre Dame might have been a top5 at one point in history..but today that place is a joke from top to bottom.

Same with Penn St..I wouldn't put penn in top40..just sayin

What is the criteria for ranking? Some considerations.
Administration - we are down the list on this one
Funding- not in great shape here but getting better
Facilities - in very good shape here
Fan support - vocal both good and bad. Great travelers for bowls etc. no competing pro teams.
Conference - great conference support with cash and tv exposures but tough conference to win in
In state talent - below average for our conference
Good place to live- yes
Geographic location - very good, easy travel to recruit, great weather in season and spring
Winning Tradition - very good but not so recent

Much easier to recruit and win at LSU and GA than FL or TN. Notre Dame is not in the top 20 any more. TN and Fl should be between 10-15.
Bama is more like 5-7. Not that much better than LSU or GA. Bama fans can be stupidly brutal when they are loosing. Who would want to follow Saben at Bama.

We're directly behind Michigan State and Auburn but should be ahead of them based purely on the fact those schools have a big brother in-state rival to contend with.

I don't really know enough about the facilities at all these schools, and I have a mediocre understanding of recruiting, so I don't want to make a list, but some of these lists seem to be heavily influenced by recent success.

If you're considering it as a destination job, having a successful staff in place should LOWER the school on this list. Clemson in particular seems to be too high. Isn't their current staff credited with building a top program from a weaker position? Someone taking over there would have the same disadvantages plus higher expectations.

We're were are because of the AD situation. And to add salt to the wound, look at how our arguably worst enemy conducted their search. One AD (Battle) doesn't even announce that he's leaving and they hold a presser and announce the new AD (Byrne). All done behind the scene. Bama was just like UT in the sense they kept the AD position "In The Family". But, they found theirs outside.

We could be top tier if the powers that be would get it together.

Florida made its change with ease, too. I think the article nailed the problem accurately. Our administration couldn't run a lemonade stand effectively.
