Ranked 22 we only need 10 spots for a playoff spot?

No. 12? We could get to no. 11. It’s still possible. Notre Dame has done it in the pass. Other teams have moved up 15-20 spots in theee weeks.
We aren’t winning out, and even if we did, they aren’t putting a 3 loss SEC team whose only win against a team with a winning record is Vanderbilt into the playoff, nor should they.

I understand that, but ummm, just what we would think moving up 10 to 12 spots?
It won’t happen. We may not jump a team that loses. Plus, I don’t see 8-10 teams losing.

And, we are idle need weak. Then we play a Bad FL team (record wise) before ending the season with Vandy. Not going to happen. And I give us less than 50-50 chance running the table. We are an avg football team, not a good very good team.

Find me one time in the history of the AP Poll...heck, in the history of any rankings, where a team moved up 10 spots with 3/4 of the season already played.

Yes, teams have moved 10 spots in a few weeks, but thats usually early in the season and they outplay their preseason expectations.

Just stop. Since the Ms St. game, it’s been apparent that this team has too many flaws to be a playoff contender. Last night slammed that door shut. We have two conference games left that are at best 50/50 odds of winning.

After their loss to Oklahoma, the Tennessee Volunteers' (6-3) chance of making the 2025 College Football Playoff has dropped significantly to approximately
1.6%, according to ESPN's Football Power Index. This is a substantial decrease from previous projections that offered a much higher percentage, with a loss to Oklahoma, Florida, or Vanderbilt significantly decreasing their odds. The team now needs to win its remaining games to have any chance at a playoff berth.
  • Current Odds: ESPN's FPI gives Tennessee a 1.6% chance to make the 12-team playoff field.
  • Impact of Loss: The loss to Oklahoma has severely hampered their playoff chances.
  • Path Forward: The team must win its remaining regular-season games against New Mexico State, Florida, and Vanderbilt to have a realistic chance at the playoff.
  • Win-Out Scenario: If they win out, ESPN's Playoff Predictor gives them a 90% chance to make the playoff.

Seriously? We can’t move up 10 spots? If we win out, and a lot of teams lose in front of us? Heck, I’ve seen teams move up 20 spots in just three weeks. It’ll probably never happen, but is it possible??

That’s not how it works. It’s not the top 12 that get in

First, the 5ive conference champions make it. And last year, the B1G & SEC runner-ups both made it (which is fair, you shouldn't be punished for competing for your conference title). Those two means that seven spots are now gone. That leaves 5 open slots. Notre Dame could steal one. Then there would be 4. So you'd want to be one the 5 highest ranked remaining teams you'll be golden.

Remove this post. There might be 2 loss teams out there who don’t make the playoff. We have no quality wins so we won’t even be the best 3 loss team available. All we can do is win at the Swamp and spoil Vandy’s season.

Exactly! And play a lot of young guys in a bowl game that means nothing.

Honestly a win in the swamp would still mean something to this Vol fan. And beating Vandy when they are having a modern historical best season would give me great joy.

Not giving up till it’s over. I never give up. You got to realize, you can move more than ten spots in 4 weeks.
TN is out of the playoff picture. We don’t play anyone else on the schedule (no, vandy doesn’t count) of import to put us in the playoffs. This just isn’t a very good team this year, bad kicker, turnover prone QB. Start Gmac at QB rest of the way.

It's mathematically possible since a bunch of teams could suddenly go on massive losing streaks against inferior opponents.

But there is no realistic chance. At 9-3, UT's best win would be a (possible) 9-3 Vanderbilt at home. That would likely be their only win over a team with a winning record.
