Since it's a runningback that is getting all the attention today, I figured we could rank the top 5 RB's in UT history.

1. Johnny Majors (Did everything literally, and was a good RB)
2. Travis Stephens
3. Reggie Cobb
4. Travis Henry
5. Jamal Lewis

Honorable Mention: Chuck Webb, Hank Lauricella, Charlie Garner, James Stewart, Jay Graham, Aaron Hayden

Move Jamal up the list to 3. Cobb to 2 and Stephens down to 5 and you are about right.

He deserves it all. He deserves the number 1 back spot, to lead the team down the hill before games, to lead the band in Rocky Top after every game and his name is already in the works to be used to rename Philip Fulmer way.

Isn't this what Kiffin promised him?

If Coker had stayed here, he would have been top 3 easy. What a waste of God-given talent.

They should rename Shields-Watkins as Bryce's Canyon.

Webb first. Him going down against Pacific (PACIFIC!) never to return is one of the worst memories I've got as a Vol fan.

Lewis. Here or the next level when healthy...what's to discuss? You were watching, weren't you?

After that it gets tangled for me. Henry/Cobb/Stephens/Jones/etc.

I think Garner is often overlooked a little and Coker gets way too much credit.

i know Webb was good. He easily could have been top 3, but he only played two years. I've seen his highlights, and he was something else.

he didn't show anything against top-flight competition that showed he was even close to some of the names mentioned here. He also didn't show it once he dropped down a level.

2006 Florida, 2006 Penn State.

He did just fine at Hampton. Even if he didn't do well, it would have no effect on his contributions while at UT. Look at James Banks. His skill and contribution in big games at UT are not debatable, but he struggled to be relevant at Carson Newman after being booted from UT.

In my lifetime:
1) Travis Henry - stopped only by Phillip Fulmer & Randy Sanders.
2) Tony Thompson - lead the Vols to the Sugar Bowl victory over Virginia. had a great Offensive Line to work behind.
3) Chuck Webb - still remember the way he ran wild on Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl.
4) Johnnie Jones - my 1st UT memories are of him running for touchdowns as it was described by John Ward.

If he could have put it all together, there's no telling how good this guy wouldve been. He was flat out electric with the ball in his hands.

Jamal his freshman year thru injury at Auburn in 98. He wasn't the same player after his return.

Agreed. In fact, it boggles the mind what kind of numbers the likes of Webb, Lewis & Cobb might have put up if they'd been able to play out their careers uninterrupted.
