Rank the 12 SEC Football Coaches

I'm not saying Miles isn't a good coach, but lets wait till he gets a chance to coach all of the players HE recruited.

Although we probably never will because he is most likely the next coach at Michigan.

If Perrilloux is any indication of players HE recruited then I'd say LSU will be fine.

After his tweaking of Spurrier with that fake FG attempt I REALLY like him.......

If you knew me a little better, you'd know that's not the case. I love debate. I loved your points about Bobby Johnson. I just disagreed, and then you made a joke about being retarded. Just because I disagree doesn't mean I disrespect your opinion. I just disagree.

Let's not forget LSU was 3-8, and 4-7 the two years before Saban got there. I have some family in Louisiana who wish Saban would have came back, because Saban took an LSU program who had 7 losing seasons in the 90's and won the SEC Title in his 2nd year, and a National Title in his 3rd.

As to where Miles inherited a team where two years before won a National Title, and had the most talented LSU team in the modern era and didn't win the SEC.

Pretty much the same thing before Dinardo turned their team around.

It's tough early on, but here is how I look at it at what they are currently doing and what they have done recenty.

1. Meyer
2. Miles
3. Richt
4. Saban
5. Spurrier
6. Nutt
7. Tuberville
8. Fulmer
9. Brooks
10. Johnson
11. Orgeron
12. Croom

I think that 3-5, can be interchangeable.

Nutt at number 6.... Really? He has lost 5 of the last 6 games and has the best two running backs in the country.

Let us not also forget that De Nardo had a ton of talent but was a doofis and could not coach a lick. St Nick did not come to a team with the cupboard bare. No matter how much people wanna give $aban all the credit. He won and took advantage of the situation. He also had a 4 and a 5 loss season. The year after he won the SEC he lost 5 games. Miles has recruited well on both sides of the ball. My point is this. $aban gets WAY to much credit as far as I'm concerned when you campare what he has done to others who have done just as much or more and they get less credit. He has called 2 bad games already this season. It cost him against UGA but thinks to no nutt being a total idiot he got away with one against arky.

Right or wrong, everytime I try to knock Saban, I think about him handing UT "the loss" that preceded our descent into mediocrity. I also credit him with the talent on the LSU team now. Like most situations, we will know exactly how good he is in the next few years.

Many of the players on the LSU team that are contributing are Miles recruits. Miles also has had very good recruiting classes as well. Then is it safe to say that he won the SEC with Dinardos players?
Look the guy is a good coach. But the way the media and some on this site talk about him and rank his so high I just dont get. He had the EXACT same amount of 4 or more loss seasons at LSU as he did 10 or more win seasons. I still contend that any coach that is average or better will win at LSU.

I agree to some extent, the potential scares me more than the track record..if that makes any sense.

Having Richt above Saban is laughable.
Just out of curiosity, I would like to hear why you think puting Richt above Saban is so laughable. Their respective bodies of work are about even.

Richt winning percentage of .78
Saban winning percentage of .75

Richt 2 SEC titles
Saban 2 SEC titles

Richt 4 ten or more win seasons
Saban 2 ten or more win seasons

The argument that Saban has a NC and Richt doesn't, holds little water. In 03' LSU went 13-1 and in 02' UGA went 13-1, the only difference is that UGA happen to go 13-1 in a year that there were two unbeaten teams, so they never had the chance to play for a NC, or Richt would likely have a NC. LSU went 13-1 in a year when every team lost at least one game and at that LSU needed several teams to lose in order to move into that number two spot. As luck would have it, several teams lost late in the season enabling LSU to play for the title and subsequently win one. If it weren't for that stroke of luck, Saban has zero national titles. I don't see why it's so absurd to rank Richt above Saban. JMHO

It's a lot easier to recruit and plug in players at a school that is already riding high and loaded with mature talent. Same goes for getting good assistants.

It's a different matter to do it from scratch when everyone thinks you're a joke.

Thus far, Miles' only job has been not to screw it up. I haven't been impressed.

Saban had only one season in which he had more than 11 wins (03') "with Saban's recruits"

Miles has to back to back 11 win seasons "with Saban's recruits" and this year appears to promise at least 11 wins

I'd say Miles seems to be doing a better job than Saban did "with his recruits"

Its complicated to argue for and against where these coaches should be ranked. Because whenever somebody tries to justify it with records and numbers there are so many variables that make it almost impossible to say who is a "better coach" based off of that. Like Miles recent success at LSU with the players he has had, Saban leftovers and some his own. Do you really not think almost any coach in the SEC could have won and recruited well at LSU over Miles stretch? Would any coach in the SEC be able to recruit kids to Miss State, following the rules?

So, this is my list of the coaches in order of how I think they would fair if they were placed into the exact same situation and circumstances. No recruiting advantage because of the the school they are at, all have the same budget, etc. Hypothetical of course, but these lists are hypothetical in nature anyway.

1. Meyer
2. Spurrier
3. Saban

4. Tubberville
5. Richt

6. Miles
7. Fulmer
8. Brooks
9. Johnson
10. Nutt
11. Croom
12. Orgeron
