RANK SEC FOOTBALL COACHES (Merged)

sorry wasn't aware it was 1998, I thought it was 2007. Could be wrong though. :good!:
no you're not wrong. it is in fact 2007. but since Richt hasn't been at UGA as long as Fulmer, i think he was simply making note that Fulmer and Richt have accomplished about the same, save a national title for Richt that is, in about the same amount of time, relatively speaking about each coach's 1st 6 years on the job.

i think he was getting around to the point that Fulmer's 1st full season as HC was 93, and from 93 to 98 (a 6 year time span) he won 2 sec titles and a national title. which is comparable with the time framt that Richt won his two SEC titles (also in a 6 year time span).

It's actually something that's pretty interesting to think about. UGA is teetering right now on the edge of what could be another good run or what could be a handful of 8 win seasons.

Georgia wins the SEC next year.

Thanks for trying to help me make my point.

To continue - we just don't know if Richt is better simply by looking at his performance to date. If he had been around the same amount of time and had better accomplishments, it would be a better argument.

Richt wasn't in the league when Captain Hayseed won his titles. TCHFCATUTK, however, was a rotund speed bump on Richt's way to his titles.
special nicknames aside, that is correct and part of the problem with Fulmer. richt though also didn't have to compete against Spurrier when he was dominating at Florida...and he still can't beat those guys.

you shouldn't, and when you get done doing something about it, let me know how it goes.

Now, here's a great response. Since you can't do anything to change it, you should accept the status quo.

Did we quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

How many SEC titles has Captain Hayseed won since Richt came on the scene? Gee, letting Rodney Garner leave was a stroke of genius on TCHFCATUK's part.

i kind of agree. I think UGA is sort of mirroring what TN did in the 90's. it will be interesting to see what happens with them the next couple of years. I for one think they will be pretty good next year. they definitely won't lose to KY and Vandy next season. i was surprised and impressed with the way they finished this season.

Thing is Richt has his program on an upswing. Richt had the same problems we had last year (QB rotation, defense a lot better than offense) and still managed to finish with the same record we had this year and beating 3 ranked opponents in a row and a bowl game. In other words in a rebuilding year he went 9-4, in a year when we were supposed to contend for a national championship Fulmer went 5-6.

that was a mistake. i agree with that 100%

I'm calling a timeout here . . . Don't tell me that 9-4 is a decline for us, but that 9-4 is an upswing for the defending SEC Champions.
i can see why that could be said, at least as to how the seasons ended for each team.

we lose 2 of our last 4, and the bowl game. they win @ auburn and against GT and their bowl game.

they finished better than we did....that much i agree with.

but in the end, i do recall a game in Athens that i still feel pretty good about.

Look at Georgia's record this decade, look at Tennesse's record this decade, then look at Richt's record vs Fulmer head to head and tell me who's on an upswing.

Richt has lost 2 out of 3 to Fulmer, is owned by Florida and got 50 hung on him at home by us. How big an upswing could it possibly be?

and yes 9-4 is good for a rebuilding team considering they beat three ranked opponents in a row to the end the year including a bowl win. How'd we finish? (insert Ainge was injured post here)

wow...you're both right. just depends on which angle you prefer to look at....glass half full, or half empty?

What did he do with the '05 season? He punched a championship ticket? When the Legions of Lard that masquerade as a coaching staff deliver something like that, I'll start worry about how UGA is doing.
