Here is how I rank them. Be sure to give your reasons.

4. Butch Jones - many people will pick Dooley as our worst coach ever but he at least left SOMETHING to work with for Butch Jones. Dooley also beat Butch Jones head to head while at UT. Butch Jones was nothing but an embarrassment. Life champions, trash can, violence in the locker room, etc. cliche cliche cliche....Dobbs is the only reason Butch looked somewhat competent.

3. Derek Dooley - he had us at an all time low before Butch Jones came to town to do even worse. The culture was awful because he didn’t let VFL come in and watch practices. Speaking of VFL Dooley was responsible for the VFL title. Maybe the only good thing Dooley did. Butch gave us nothing but embarrassing phrases. Although Dooley did give us shower discipline and the Romel reference. I still give Butch the edge as the worst coach because of how damaged we are right now in his aftermath.

2. Jeremy Pruitt - hasn’t proven anything yet and I still have him ahead of Butch and Dooley simply because he doesn’t embarrass me in press conferences. He also seems to be recruiting to the Vols well even though we are the worst team ever. Just the fact that he shoulders responsibility for Butch’s suckage is enough to earn my respect.

1. Lane Kiffin- he took over the best situation of all the coaches, but he still overachieved. He woukd have beaten the Alabama National champions if it wasn’t for them blocking our field goal at the end. He left us for his dream job just as I did when I chose to go teach at my alma mater a couple of weeks before the start of my current school’s new year. (I clearly don’t teach language arts as you can probably see from this post).

I hope we will look back 3 years from now and be singing Pruitt’s praises. The worst thing we can do is fire him after 3 years and he go somewhere and be successful. Just ask Florida about how that worked with Will Muschamp.

I agree with your rankings although there is still a chance that Pruitt and Dooley could change. I hope that is not the case because Pruitt will have to do some really sorry coaching to make that happen. I doubt he can surpass Butch for fourth place cause Butch was a used car salesman with cars to sell.

The whole Romel thing is overblown, his point was correct, eventually the players need to do what comes naturally and not look for the coaches to tell them how to do it or what to do. Just do it, don’t wait for Romel

He explained it in a goofy way but he’s right, even now these guys act like they don’t know hiw to do anything by themselves.

It's not that he explained it in a goofy way. It's that he was throwing his players under the bus to get a laugh from a room full of reporters. Same thing he did with the comments about showering and on other occasions.

The man's leadership skills were slim to non-existent.

I see your point but at the same time, the players needed to be called out.

I’ve seen a bunch of coaches do it, Leach for example does all the time, and his guys still play hard for him.

At some point the onus has to fall on the players, two separate coaching staffs and we’re still seeing the same players play like they have no desire to play.

So when does it fall on them? When we have to hire our seventh coach in 13 years?

You have to give JP and Lane an incomplete.

Lane did some good things and then brought is a horrible recruiting class, secondary violations and negative pub. I don't think he'd have survived long term.

Dooley is one of the worst coaches in modern SEC history with a 4-19 conference record. At least BJ was 14-24 in the SEC and won 3 bowl games . He won 9 in year 3. He's horrible but miles better than Dooley.

Butch came in with a 50-37 record and 2 conf titles. Dooley rolled in with a 17-20 record, fresh off a dominant 4-8 season. He's a buffoon.

Jones did win 3 straight bowl games -- Dooley left the OL bare, so no Dooley was the worst - Jones was just a control freak

Amazes me that you think you've seen enough from Pruitt to put him on the list.

If you'd started this thread an hour earlier, you'd have made the honor roll I created.
I haven’t seen enough from Pruitt but I can place him above Butch and Dooley simply because he isn’t an embarrassment like the others were from year one.

Dooley didn’t go 0-8 in the SEC.

Butch coached like a scared little kid who was weak minded.

It took Dobbs to turn his stupid Big East offense into his only bright spot on the team.

I look more at how Butch “built” us rather than what he did with Dooley’s players. I will judge Pruitt more on how he does with his own players rather than Butch’s. Obviously these rankings can change.

Saban would have the guts to say the loss was on himself and his coaches - Pruitt wont do that - he is no better than Jones in that dept
Oh, I don't know. I've listened to him say he makes mistakes that he has to learn from. Most every presser, he's mentioned the fact he's made bad calls.
