According to their Twitter account @RankByOffers,they have Josh Malone ranked as the #5 player in the country as well as Orlando Brown at #7.

Interesting metric and quite telling of Butch's recruiting prowess.

I would like to take this approach and combine it with social network analysis.

Most of the offers from Brown were considered uncommitable by the time he made his decision. It's a pretty inaccurate list.

According to Greg Mcilisse he had offers from like 324 schools and UT didn't even offer him so the "offer" thing may not mean much. :)

What do you mean by that?

I'm thinking

1) Compile a list of all prospects signed SEC schools last year.
2) For each prospect, compile a list of which SEC schools offered them.
3) Use that to create a graphic (and the stats) like the first image here Social network analysis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
4) The athletes with most connections should be ranked the highest.

I think you'd still run into some of the headaches that others have pointed out, but it could be a good start (and a fun way to visualize the connections) at finding a way around them.

Seems like early commitments (i.e., those who don't wait until NSD who would certainly get more offers over the longer period of time) would get the short end of the stick if you evaluated them just on offers. Obviously, Hurd falls into that realm since he committed early and was firm about it. The Berry twins waited but didn't get many offers because everybody figured they were Tennessee bound.:hi:
