Thank you, OP, for your service and for sharing this story. It makes me think Randy Shannon would fit in well here... though it seems a longshot that he will come. But you never know what will happen tomorrow at the University of Tennessee.

Great story and shows something of the character of the coach many are hoping comes to Big Orange Country.

I have great respect for our men and women in uniform and appreciate your service.

Thank you,

That's pathetic. You're pathetic.

Those are not my ideas but ideas of our founding fathers and Jesus. So if your a christian I do not expect you to respect Jesus and his ideas but if you are then I would not call his way of thinking pathetic.

RedAir69 -

Great story and thanks for sharing...
A big thank you for putting your life at risk every day so cowards such as Volfan1212 can exercise their right to free speech.

The senseless name calling is expected. The post was not directed at the military man but those that support any unnecessary conflict we engage in. I have direct family members in military and a father who was in the military. I myself have been in law enforcement but yet I am a coward for not supporting needless conflict? Am I a coward because I do not join a war? You are more likely to die in most major US cities than in the war in Iraq look it up.

The point is this we are to quick to think that violence is the answer. In 3 years 2.5% of the Iraq population have died in the conflict some of those civilians. You cannot tell me that innocent people dying is acceptable or is it acceptable because it is not happening here? Christians cannot say that innocents dying is ever acceptable. That is not to say we should not have a military but CHANGE the way that we conduct ourselves.

They go where they are told to go,do what they are told to do,no matter how
dire the situation,no matter the odds... put in that situation by some moron you probably voted for...

so have a cup of coffee, study some more philosophy, and STFU and thank a service man, because when the chit hits the fan,I guarantee you'll be looking for one to protect you then...

Sort of continuing from the above point as a Christian you can have only one master so maybe you should not put yourself in the position to sin by being told what to do and where to go?

Sorry you think this is political but most politicians on boths sides have started wars and are not good leaders.

No, when it gets bad I will not look for them to protect me I can do that myself but more importantly I will look to God for protection.

This is your right. We all choose to exercise our rights differently. The OP started this thread to talk about the support that rShannon gave to soldiers in a tough spot. He didnt say that rShannon was some sort of war monger. He didnt speak of rShannon's or his own political views, religious vies, or personal views towards war. He spoke about the class of a guy like rShannon, taking time to hang out with troops who are in a war zone (no politics about why they are there). He talked about how cool it was that this guy went over and above what the others were doing, and just that it was cool.

Most importantly, to me anyways, the guy didnt come here as some sort of attention whoooer, he didnt ask people to thank him, but he is being very humble in taking the time to thank the people that thank him. Again, pretty cool.

There are places to argue religion and politics, and there are probably even threads on this board (assuming the name Tebow comes up somewhere) that are more appropriate than here.

I dont know you, and Im not going to label you as one thing or another, but your posts in this thread reek of douchebaggery. I certainly think higher than that of the Vol faithful. I hope you can walk away from this thread without dragging it down any further. I believe it would be the right thing to do.

and, in the words of the college kid that gives me my tea and sausage burrito at the drive up window every morning, "have a blessed day".

Great post Red air and I agree 100% of how classy Shannon is...I worked security on the field during Cane games for years and still do some times and he always walked around and said hello to all of us before the games...He is very genuine and I think he would be a super addition to the VOL family...He is not a very good HC but as a DC they just don't come much better...P.S. Thank You for your service and stay safe out there!

Why do my post reek of "douchebaggery" because my opinion is different that yours? Maybe I should be more narrow minded and call people cowards, commies, or pathetic because they don't agree with me. I clearly see that is the appropriate way to respond instead of making a logical rebuttal which apparently no one knows how to do anymore.

Again my original post had nothing to do with the OP but the people who thank them when there are many out there doing good who are not thanked every time they they mention what they do.

Crack a book and you will see many men smarter than you or I agree.

I see this all the time and it is sad how far we have fallen as a country. This country was founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs and non interventionism (See Thomas Paine's Common Sense).

In fact the military is doing everything but defending the United States, securing U.S. borders, guarding U.S. shores, patrolling U.S. coasts, and enforcing no-fly zones over U.S. skies. Defending is non interventionism.

You can quote separation of church and state all day but the US government funded christian missionaries early on. Ask yourself how much better the world would be if we had continued that practice with just one-tenth of our military budget? You may not be a christian but you have to admit Jesus was a good guy who wanted nothing but good in this world.

We need to stop the borderline "worship" of the military and start thanking those that give their lives to true freedom from hunger, illness, ignorance and sin. Next time try thanking a preacher, doctor, non-profit volunteer/worker at a charity, teacher. Most of these people are working for the greater good not taking a side in a conflict.

Are you a member of the Westboro Baptist Church? Sounds like it.

Thank you for your service.

My dad was in Vietnam and he witnessed this first hand when he arrived back home. I can tell he is still a little bitter about it to this day how he was treated when he came back.

That was exactly what I was talking about. He had to endure that and I hate it, regardless of his rank and peoples political view he was just following orders...and if he didn't well then during a time of war it would be punishable by death. Sad, but the support now is overwhelming.

God bless your father.

Thanks for you service and protecting our country and our rights.

This story makes me want Randy Shannon as our d-cord a little more. It's nice to know that some coaches would do stuff like that.

Yea man, thanks! And your right sometimes the small things mean a lot more. Character.

Your entitled to your opinion and that's because some people before us in the military died for that right, and still protect that right today.

Ask those 3,000+ families, wether they are fatherless, motherless, widows or widowers, after they get a small payment for the life their love one gave if they want to thank a doctor who makes triple digits a year still in this economy if they want to thank them.

My two kids have been trough a lot when it comes to medical and I thank the doctor every time and shake his had. But not one time do I thank him for sacrificing his well paid, time spent at home through the week with his family, etc.

I'm not going to go down the list of yours giving reasons for everyone and what separates us. You get the point from my example.

Your missing the boat man. I probably shouldn't have gone off on a tandem like yourself but for all the marines, army, navy, air force, and coast guard, who have lost their lives you should be ashamed of yourself. Regardless of peoples political views on the war, I believe that 99% of the people who agree or disagree still extend a hand, because they believe in the value of an American life and what we stand for and that's freedom.

Btw, if there are any doctors in the house I hope i didn't offend you cause you save lives everyday. But for the guy to compare the two it's like apples and oranges.

Go vols

Commie!

You are either with us, or you are against us. If you truly feel that way, move your tree-hugging butt to France. They have an open border.

This board is about football at the University of Tennessee.

Jacksone couldn't have said it better himself. This thread is about Tennessee football. And for individuals to thank me and the tons more for my service is awesome. I don't post on this board and reference the military to get the overwhelming response of people thanking me. It just comes natural for most cause I believe America is awesome and the people too.

I thank a vet everytime i see them. We get groups together to go to the VFW and just spend time and talk with vets about their experiences and ours. Nothing better than giving back, even if it is just a thank you. When your in the really crappy situations you better believe that a military person remembers what he is fighting for and as they sometimes don't make it our they remember what uniform they are wearing and why.

the OP was not searching for support of himself, but free men and women can choose to support him if they so choose.

99% of our men and women in service have no decision over whether we send them to combat or what they go to combat for. They have jobs to do and, when asked to do so, they are the butt-kickingest army on the planet.

They put their behinds on the line to protect your right to give us crap here, and to protect our right to support them.

Im not a war monger. But I support the men and women in our military because
1) they do a crappy job on a daily basis
2) they put their tookis on the line on a daily basis
d) because I can

Thanks for posting. You are a great american. I mean that, I really do.

Thanks for saying it better then me I get worked up sometimes and probably never say it right cause I love what i do. Thank you and go vols!

HIRE rShannon!
