In NC you get the tag immediately at the tag office but you must have cash or check in hand for all applicable fees. Ask me how I know. (Fawking stand in line twice)

Agreed. dumber still they had an atm but it didn't work? Lines are longer than fawk here too. My sincere recommendation is call those people, confirm what you are doing and how much and what you need because sometimes you need weird stuff like proof of insurance in hand. Whatever dollar amount they advise take $50 extra for the BS stuff they come up with tax. Again NC advice.

NC is pretty awesome but our DMV and Tag offices are worse than the IRS. The DMV is like a model in torture. Appointments are 6 months in advance or 6 hours in line, your choice.
