Be wary of the advice you receive in your router thread, Sly.
Dammit. Qwest. I do that all the time. Yeah, they suck pretty bad. I was paying premium price for the high end connection and I told them it wasn't much better than a really good dial up. Probably dropped out 8-10 times a day.
I sort of know what I'm looking for and looking at. I've been into computers of some sort since the late 80's and on the internet since it first fired up. I just want to see what's out there that I might have missed. I have several picked out but someone might suggest something better for the buck. I don't need a $200 router for a motorhome.
They could provide only dial up speeds when I was out there. And if I wanted cable that would have been out of the question.
I *****ed about the speed and my connections to them in person. They told me if I moved to the next tier, from $80 a month to $100, I would have what I was looking for. I did and no freakin' difference. I told them that I know how to ping for speed and I knew what I was getting. I moved from Utah in the midst of this so never resolved.
I wasn't that far out in the sticks to get real internet connection or have cable hooked up to my house.
I was in Loudon years ago. Dial up was the only option and it was Bell South. I used to call them daily about the poor service. They kept lowering my bill until they finally gave up and just gave it to me for free to stop my *****ing. I called them back and told them that I know it's free but it still sucks.
