We need a "crap GBs dad says" thread.

Pops is battling cancer. It's been about 3 years. The last 2 mo. have been the toughest. He made it to the 50 year anniversary, and then his body went to hell.

Cancerous cyst in his tailbone, and his hip, just under the first layer of bone. (something like that). anyways, they grew so big that they broke the tailbone and his hip.

The meds are effing with him really bad. REALLY bad.

He is hallucinating. He spent 46 years in the HVAC constuction biz. Mom says he is working day and night, in his own mind. The oxygen tubes to his mask are now either
1) extension cords or
b) the lines from his tank to charge someone AC
d) cutting torch hoses

Yesterday he lost his tape measure. "THERE IT IS, OVER THERE. Can you pick that up for me?" so there was my mom, picking up an invisible tape measure for my dad, and handing it back to him in bed.

This morning I was on the phone to her. He asked who she was talking to.

Mom: Im talking to Bill
Pop: Tell him Im gonna kick his ass!! Wait, what Bill?
Mom: your son Bill
Pop: Oh, I dont need to kick his ass, tell him he's ok.

:lolabove:

Not looking for sympathy, just enjoying the laughs while we can.

yesterday mom says: "Apparently your dad used to swear a lot at work. Today was the first time I ever heard him drop an F-Bomb!!"

Funny for 2 reasons:
1) aaaah, yeah. He never dropped them at home, but having been on jobsites with him I was not a stranger to them

2) my mom at 68 years old, literally just said the phrase "f-bomb". Now thats just plain funny

My grandfather had a stroke and lost the ability speak coherently. But the one word you could hear clear as day was damn. He would say it all the time even if he was excited or happy. And it's all you could understand. Even though it was a serious thing, it was pretty funny when it would happen.

yeah. It is very sad in a way, but if you cant laugh at some of these situations, then you are left with just crying. I cant just sit here and see the bad side.

My dad is the hardest working person that I have ever seen. Most people will tell you the same thing. So it is no surprise that when things are tough, he is laying there in bed working. Coiling up his extension cord, losing his measuring tape, that is funny as hell.

It's killing me in many ways, but I have to see the humor or I couldnt make it through this.

Good you're finding humor in a tough situation. It is funny.

My Dad was the exact same way.

No, I completely understand. It tore my mom up to see my granddad the way he was, but in those moments everything was good and we could smile. My aunt would tease him about it and we would make it a joke.
