Both sets of grandparents had small farms, so my parents grew up that way, just not my thing. Even gardening, I like breaking beans and shucking corn n all that, but tending the garden n plowing and picking beans n stuff. Just makes me feel gross.

We sold the dairy side of the operation when my papaw was diagnosed with alzhiemers. Now we run beef and horses, with a few chickens. We garden and of course have hay that has to be taken care of 2-3 times a year, but we all hold down full time outside jobs. Its a great way of life for us

Makes me miss my childhood farm. Dad & Mom had 7 acres and we always had horses. We had 2 dozen Rhode Island Red Hens, 2 goats, 2 cows, 12 ducks, 4 turkeys, a skunk (courtesy of my sister that worked at the animal shelter) 7 dogs, 8 cats, and 3 horses. Plus a large garden with 4 rows of beans, 8 rows of maters, brocolli, carrots, okra, melons, cuccumbers, corn, beets. Lots of work, but we loved it.

I fondly remember my parents gardening too. My dad trying to buy potato seeds and my mom making fresh cherry pie but not pitting the cherries. They were yankees.

I forgot about my alpine dairy goat, Mary. I wouldnt trade lives with anyone......although I would pack the operation up and move in next to you, RV, and the fur babies :)

Be careful what you ask for, cause you just might get it. Meaning...the soil down here is not soil, it's sand. The only productive year we have had in the garden is when I brought in tons of horse manure from my neighbors and tilled the crap (pun intended) out of it. Lots of miracle grow soil added in as well. Way too much work. We have re-evalutated and will try raised beds like Jhen does this spring.

Good morning FD, Kat, Tri, Thrasher, VIF.
I miss doing more farming like i use to. Its hard work but a great life.

When someone famous dies, why do people feel the need to go look at the body?

Morbid curiosity? Of all the funerals I have been to, I refuse to go in while the casket is open. Weird and morbid, imo. Creamation and a party at mine, you're all invited.
