Well, it is blue grass. I guessed it was a fill in for the lead guitar. Hard, or impossible, to be Whipping Post by the Allman Brothers.

I'm not a big bluegrass afficienado but what I gather is if there isn't a huge fiddle overtone it ain't bluegrass?

Not necessarily. Fiddle plays it's role. This song wasn't done as much as bluegrass as the other video I posted of the guys doing the Rufus Thomas Walking The Dog. Did you recognize anyone in that video, if you watched?
