I know you don't condone it Grizz. Joe Pa does not get a pass on this. There is right and there is wrong. He knows the difference. Don't think that anything happens anywhere in the university that he doesn't know about or have a finger in.

Was that choice of words intentional?

ive known those who've been victims and those who've been witnesses. the pattern of action was almost identical. this crime is so heinous i think it screws with people's moral compass. the clear & right thing to do seems so simple yet people don't act on it. its almost like the reality is so terrible their brain shuts down as coping mechanism because the trauma of facing it would be too great.

I'm sorry but it's time for the witness to pull on the "man-pants" and do something.

Quite frankly it is a said state of our society that a person can witness a molestation in action and do virtually nothing. When a society does not protect its most innocent (children) then that society is doomed to failure.

I agree with you 100% but from personal experience I know it doesn't happen that way. People will rationalize and minimize the crime especially of someone they know personally is involved. I have seen intelligent, morally sensible people do exactly what that GA & JoPa did. The fact that someone you know well could do something so terrible is more than the mind can take. It shuts down. I'm not making excuses just an observation from another side. I would guarantee that if you or I witnessed that crime we would have reported it immediately because we are have connection to the criminal.

Coping mechanism for the victims, maybe. For the witness, though, this is merely a cop out.

Plain and simple. He didn't tell anyone, because he liked his job. Joe Pa didn't tell anyone, because he liked his brilliant linebacker coach on his staff. (no pun intended, I have no knowledge of their personal relationship.)

I wish it could be simply called a cop out. But there is more to it than that. Several years ago I would have taken the same stand as you. But after closely personally observing victims and witnesses in a similar situation it changed my view. an irrational type of reasoning takes over.
