For the following, please calculate the appropriate t-test by hand (showing your work).
A criminologist is interested in whether there exists a disparity in sentencing based on the race of a defendant. She selected at random 18 burglary convictions and compared the prison terms given to the 10 whites and 8 blacks sampled. The sentence lengths (in years) are shown below. Using these data, test the null hypothesis that whites and blacks convicted of burglary in this jurisdiction do not differ with respect to prison sentence length.
You can;t do this one, but this is the only part of the file that is complete.
Below are math scores for 20 school children who took part in a new math program geared towards increasing numerical fluency. Please enter the data into SPSS and answer the following:
State the null and alternate hypotheses for the following research question: The new math program significantly influences numerical fluency among school children
9. Null:
10. Alternate:
11. What is the mean math score prior to the Math Program? ___________
12. What is the mean math score after administering the Math Program? _______
13. Assume α= .05. What is the critical t-ratio? ______
14. What is the calculated t-ratio? _______
15. Do you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis? _______
i don't have a calculator... but i doubt i remember exactly how to do it... that saddens me............................................................. :cray:
I usually just use it for about 10-20 data points taken from experiments. Use it a bit for numerical/statistical analysis but it isn't large amounts of data I work with. Posted via VolNation Mobile
I'm the same way. I usually brush up for about 30 mins before a test. Works for that test but its not good for retaining the material long term Posted via VolNation Mobile
